For the 90’s generation, the top 3 ranked most common names are Jessica, Ashley, and Emily, for girls, and Michael, Christo- pher, and Matthew, for boys. Luckily, those aren’t the only names with our classes. If they were the only names, we wouldn’t be a very diverse school, or nation for that matter. However, there is a downside to having a unique name. For one, you probably won’t ever find a personalized souvenir like a key chain or coffee mug. When there’s a substitute teacher, for example, he may always find a new way to mis- pronounce your name and some teachers may never get it right, ever. “Usually every teacher I’ve had mispronounces my name. Even substitutes who have had me in class before,” Kateri Never Miss A Shot said. Today’s technology doesn’t help with the problems of hav- ing a distinctive name. Auto correct may change a name to something more common or even to something completely different. Joses Palomo is one of those people who has not benefitted from technology. While it looks like Jose, it is pronounced more like Joseph. “Everyone calls me Jo because it is easier. Substitutes constant- ly call me Jose,” Joses Palomo said.
