These are my tips for good use of the time I’d otherwise just bemoving around without a purpose. When I’m brewing mycoffee or waiting for my tea water to boil these are things that Itake care to keep my house in order, and I know they’ll keepyours too. Enjoy!
This is one task that has a huge impact in how good yourkitchen will look and how well you can function here. Unload thedishwasher and put everything away now. Later, as you prepareyour next meal, nothing will be on your way.

Tip #1 - Load/Unload Your Dishwasher

Grab your broom or the pick-up vacuum and clean the kitchenfloors. Even if you don’t mop it now, it will feel a lot better not tostep on crumbs or pieces of last night’s kids’ menu!
Once a day you should take your trash bag out, no matter howbig or small your family is, trash, for sanitary reasons and goodFeng Shui practice shouldn’t be sitting around. ;-)

Stoves are a symbol of the heart of the home, where youprepare your food to nourish yourself and your family. Alwaysmake sure your stovetop is sparkling clean. With a soapysponge clean all surfaces and dry.
Once a week refrigerators need some attention, so just gothrough everything that is in there and bring out whatever isspoiled, almost there or you just won’t eat it. Discard everythingand with a wet sponge or wipes clean the shelves and drawers.

Zap your sponge –wet, not dry - for 2 minutes in themicrowave. When you are done, wipe the microwave cleanwith wipes or with your (now clean) soapy sponge, and thendry it. Aim to do it every other day.
Clear up space on your counter by creating a small tray with theitems you use daily. Grab a large dish and place your salt,pepper, olive oil and most used spices. I love to use a cakestand or a small lazy-susan for that!

With paper and pen ready, check your pantry for items thatneed to be bought and while you’re there, bring out anythingyou already know it’s old, stale or just won’t be eaten.
Call the services for the repairs you need done, or the office forthat appointment you have been postponing. Grab yourcalendar before you call to make sure you know when you’reavailable.

Go through your family room and pick up all left-overs fromlast night’s tv time: fold your throws, put away the toys,recharge the video game remotes and put the magazinesaway (or toss them if you’re done reading). While youare there, fluff your curtains and your pillows!
If you will be home, put a load of laundry running. It will takeabout one hour to get washed. Just the perfect timing to giveyou a break from your other activities and move it to the dryer!

At the end of the day it’s a great pleasure to come to a bed thathas been made. It takes you 5 minutes to get it done and you’llbe happy when you come back tonight!
As tedious as this can be, pick up all the clothes that may be“hanging” around in your room or closet and sort them. Theyeither go back in your closet, the drawer or in the hamper!

Everyone has them and it’s tempting to just get home and tossthem in a corner. If you don’t have a place for shoes right at theentrance of your home, you most likely have a pile there. Pickup all the shoes and bring them back to where they belong:closet, a basket or cubbies.
Home entrances are very important for our success in life andhow we portray ourselves to the world. Keep yours impeccablyclean and as pretty as you can. While your coffee is brewing youcan shake your doormat, sweep the floor and check for deadplants, spider webs and lighting. Replace light bulbs if needed.
