A Successful Pitch EmailHi! I'm a homeschooling mom of 5, and I most definitely think
kids need to know Roman numerals. While we don't use them "that" often, they do come up. One example is classic literature: I'm reading Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist" with my 13-year-old right now, and the chapters are numbered by Roman numerals. When I ask her "what chapter are we on?" she had better be able to answer.
I realize that it may not seem to be the most culturally relevant thing you can teach kids these days, but it takes about an hour to go over them. By revisiting the concepts one time each year, they'll remember, and when it comes up, they won't appear to be idiots.
If kids can get what "LOL" and "ROFL" means... "XXII" should be cake.
If you use any of my quotes, please let me know. Thanks!
