What is Pinterest?

“Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover

new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.”

What do I pin?✤ Beautiful, editorial style photography: Think

Martha Stewart or your favorite blog. Pinterest is a visual medium. Take the time to invest in good photography, it can mean the difference between a repin and just a like.

✤ Show off your collection: Pinterest was created to share your collection of beautiful things. Books that you have at home. Art on the walls. What do they say about you as person?

✤ Roam Freely: Boards should not be just of your items. Don’t replicate your store. Do pin outside of the Etsy community. This is where a lifestyle brand comes alive. What inspires you to craft? Pin it!

How do I self promote?

✤ Behind the Scenes: Give your customers a peek into what inspires you, what influences your brand, and your company culture. Extend your focus beyond your own content or product.

✤ Do you sell vintage boots? Sell beads? Show all creations by color palette. Highlight your customers’ work.

Pinterest is still evolving.

How do I get followers?

✤ Use other social media tools to boost your Pinterest presence.

✤ Peak pinning time is Monday through Friday 4-11pm EST

✤ Be active with other pinners, not just the super influential.

✤ If you find a cool board, tweet the link and highlight it on your Facebook page.

Page 21: Getting Pinned: Build your Community and Brand

✤ Check your Shop Stats to see if your most popular Pinterest items are still for sale or getting traffic.

✤ Your Etsy URL will be the same if you pinned it or some else pinned it.

✤ A frequent complaint about Etsy items on Pinterest is that they can be sold out or expired. If an item is sold you'll still get some of the benefit of the traffic, but an expired item is a dead end. So consider keeping your most popular items on Pinterest renewed, as they act as an important entrance into your store.

✤ If you have restocked or created a new item, spend extra time pinning and commenting that day. Many repins happen in the first few minutes after you post.
