The University’s IT Service Catalogue lists other IT services you can get at Cambridge: https://www.itservices.cam.ac.uk

Most students choose to, but you don’t have to. There are shared computing facilites (Windows, Mac and Linux) available around the University.

Do I have to bring

my own computer?

If you forget your initial password, just repeat Step 2 to get back to it. If you created your UIS Password in Step 3 and set up self-service password recovery, you can use the Password Management site at https://password.csx.cam.ac.uk to retrieve it. If you didn’t, wait until you get to College and ask your IT staff for a Password Reset Token.

Discover your University ID (CRSid) and email addressFollow your unique link at the end of the student registration process to go on and collect your Cambridge username, known as your CRSid, and your initial password to log in to get your student IT account and email.

Your CRSid is a combination of your initials and some random numbers. It is used to identify you across the University’s systems, and as your username for many online services.

Your email address will be in the form of your [email protected].

You don’t have to wait until you get here to start using the IT services the University provides for you. Follow the four steps below to get your UIS Password and email account so that you’ll receive any pre-arrival messages your College or Department may send.

Once you have your login, you can also access some of the University Library’s online resources, download software for your personal devices and access cloud-based storage.

Complete student registrationDuring September (earlier for postgraduate students) you will get a welcome email from the Student Registry ([email protected]).It will give you instructions for completing your student registration online. You can do this any time before the start of Michaelmas term, either from home, or using one of your College’s dedicated PCs when you get here.

We provide free McAfee anti-virus products (Windows, Mac and Linux) for you to protect your own devices:

Note: it may take up to 3 hours from creating your UIS Password (see Step 3) until you can log in to our Microsoft portal to access your Exchange Online email, Office 365 and OneDrive.

Create your own UIS Password

Many services across the University use our login system to control access to restricted online resources. We call this system Raven.You’ll use your CRSid and UIS Password to log in with Raven and to your University of Cambridge Microsoft account.Create your own UIS Password now by logging in to the UIS Password Management site using your CRSid and initial password – and don’t forget to set up your self-service password recovery details while you’re there!
