Srinagar, Dec 3: Reacting to the claims of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department that election duty of CAPD storekeepers was hampering distribution of free ration in the flood hit City, an official spokesman Wednesday clarified that no storekeeper has been put on poll duty. Pertinently people are making complaints that CAPD was resorting to discrimination in relief distribution by giving free ration to only those localities which stage protests whereas the remaining stock was being swindled. “Poor power supply, dog menace, defunct streetlights our main issues’ SYED ALI HAMDANI Srinagar, Dec 3: Ahead of the annual Urs of Sultan Ul Arifeen Hazrat Khawaja Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom (RA) the residents of adja- cent localities have sought better civic amenities par- ticularly 24-hour power supply. The Coordination Committee of Kathi Dar- waza and Rainawari appealed the concerned authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply, water supply and provide ration and kero- sene oil during Urs. This committee com- prising of various nearby Mohallas including Ashraf Khan, Muma Khan, Botraj Colony, Haka Bazar, Daste- geer Colony, Hathi Khan and Baba Mohalla said the civic amenities in the local- ity need attention of Dis- trict Development Commis- sioner Farooq Ahmed Shah and other senior officials including Dr GN Qasba. The committee held a meeting under the chair- manship Haji Mehraj-ud-Din Shah to discuss the issues concerning Urs arrange- ments. “During the Urs devo- tees face hardships in visiting the shrine due to non-availability of streetlights or its being defunct especially from Kastoorpind side,” the committee said. “Apart from this dog menace is prevalent, devotees need to be protected against this threat,” the locals said adding road maintenance and sanitation were other key issues. The concern of authorities towards safe driving and traffic regulation can be gauged from the fact that for the past three months this Chinar which fell on the busy MA Road is yet to be removed.
