WhenchoreographerShellieCash-Muller(acolleagueatBucknellUniversity)asked

metocollaborateonadancefortheBucknellDanceCompany,sheexpressed

interestinboththeNancarroviantempostructuresIwasworkingwithandthe

bizarrearrayofsamplednoisesIhadusedinmyincidentalmusicforAliceinWonderland.Iwasinterestedinworkingwithatuningsystemofseptimaljustintonation(scale:1/1,9/8,7/6,21/16,4/3,3/2,12/7,14/9).Thecombination,asit

turnedout,soundeddarklyhumorous,andIaddedthetitleGhostTownbecauseofthelonelinessofthesampledgoosecalls(whicharetunedtoHarryPartch's43-tone

scale).

GhostTownwaswrittendirectlyintoanoldmusicsequencingprogramcalledVoyetraPlus.Thus,therehasneverbeenanotatedscore.Iwouldoccasionallyplay

thepiece’sorganpartonkeyboardwithabackgroundtrack,however,soatsome

pointImadeascoreofthekeyboardpartwithcues.Thatkeyboardpartisgiven

hereforpurelyscholarlyinterest.Itshowstherhythmicstructure,harmonies,bass

line,andinplacesthevirtualguitarpart.TheAisplayedas4/3inaharmonywithE,

andas21/16inaharmonywithD.Itwouldbetime-consumingtoreconstructthe

entirescorefromthesurvivingMIDI.Imaygetaroundtoitsomeday.
