Jennie was born in Northwood near London, one of three sisters. Shortly after her birth, her father accepted an accounting position in Malaya leaving Jennie in her grandmother’s care. From the age of four, she boarded weekly at Northwood College, and for her secondary education, as a boarder at St Mary’s College, Wantage Berkshire. At seventeen, Jennie joined her parents in Northern Rhodesia, now called Zambia. As an employee of Barclays Bank, she developed her accounting and bookkeeping skills. She married in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe and had a son, Andrew. After her husband died, Jennie and Andrew joined her parents in Johannesburg. Whilst working as the Personnel Manager of Coca Cola Export Corporation, she met Peter. They married in 1967 and shortly after moved to Port Elizabeth following Peter’s promotion as Branch Manager of an insurance company. In 1969 their son Stewart was born. Daughter Sarah was born two years later in Cape Town. In 1974, the family returned to Johannesburg for four years, then to a three-year posting in Botswana. Moving to Sydney in 1982, Jennie worked as a para professional for Arthur Anderson, before moving into Aged Care Management. As a member of the Gordon and Roseville Golf Clubs, she won many competitive golfing events. In 1992, Jennie and Peter came to the Sunshine Coast. Using her considerable administrative skills, she became the Manager of Suncare, computerising the company’s accounts and taking pleasure in her work with the elderly. She also played an active role in supporting Peter’s community work with Rotary. Despite working full time, Jennie was an office bearer for eight years at the Buderim Bridge Club. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Headland Golf Club and continued to excel, winning many competitions using her favourite ‘golden goose’ putter Peter had bought her early in her golfing career. As well as her prowess at bridge and golf, she sewed, knitted and crocheted for her family and friends, her nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Jennie had a deep and sustaining faith, supporting St Mark’s Anglican Church, Buderim for over twenty years. As a compassionate, warm and caring person and one fully committed to her family, Jennie’s willingness to contribute her time and expertise as an employee, a club member and as a parishioner is testament to one who unstintingly gave to others.
