    Abstract

    In Indonesia there is an increased awareness that all children need to receive an education that takesinto account their special clulrlldcistics as learners. hose who possess higher intellectual abilities and

    outstanding achitvtments in comparison with their classmates will receive adifferentiated e d u a ~ t i o n topportunity to bt tl lt to realist their potentials fully . Yet those who don tpossess those advanctd sldlls will be treated with an a,ropriate program in accordance with theirparticular needs.

    Today many schools in Indonesia are tryingto implement an accelerated program tofulfil the needs of those who posses hi ftintellectual abilities.

    Among the range o educationalimplementation options to cater for thepossibilities of the acceleration program

    most of the schools develop special classes toconduct enrichment which includes lateralas well as vertical extension. Enrichment is

    pplied t th same level of challenge as wellas at a higher level of challenge. For the lastprovision of learning this means thatacceleration beyond their enrolment cohortinto a higher cohort would result in a grade
