Our Approach to World Book Day 2020
This year, we have chosen to promote and celebrate what can be one of the most wonderful times of
the day for children and young people and that is the time when they settle down into
bed and enjoy a story/reading with a loved one. Bedtime stories or reading together
promotes calming down and relaxation before sleep, creates emotional bonds, sup-
ports a child’s development in many different areas and is something to be enjoyed as
part of the daily routine and important family time together.
In school today, we have enjoyed the cosiness, relaxation and joy
that bedtime stories can bring to all children. Be prepared for your
little ones to nag you for a bedtime story and please enjoy it!
St Stephen’s Church, Newport Hub Event

You are warmly invited to attend this community event at St Stephen’s Church which is centred around
Judith Kerr’s classic story; The Tiger Who Came to Tea. There will be a film, crafts, bacon sandwiches/croissants for all members
of the family to enjoy.
Also: Saturday 14th March from 2-4pm in the Old School House, Blacktoft
A Beetle Drive and afternoon tea event. The admission price is £3.00 and promises lots of family fun.
Our pupils have benefitted from some superb wider experiences in the first two weeks
of this half term. Y5 and 6 children have taken part in a STEM (science, technology, en-
gineering and maths) workshop courtesy of Story building contractors who will replace
Gilberdyke’s railway bridge in April. Every pupil in school has had enjoyed a workshop inside a mobile
planetarium to culminate our learning from last half term around space and science. This week the chil-
dren have enjoyed tasting a wide range of food products as part of our new theme; ‘Food Feastival’ and
staff have been thrilled with their willingness to take risks and embrace new challenges.
Curriculum newsletters have been sent home and further information about our learn-
ing for this half term can be found on the school website: www.gilberdykeprimary.co.uk
