Children’s Mental Health Week 2020
Next week is Children’s mental health week and a fitting time to launch the health and
happiness element of our planned curriculum. Set up by children’s mental health char-
ity Place2Be, the week shines a spotlight on the importance of children and young peo-
ple’s mental health. This year’s theme is Find your Brave. Our very own well-being champions, Oscar, Samuel, John and
Charlie have spent time planning focussed, daily activities with Miss Patterson and Mrs Shirley which support children’s
developing understanding of the mind and ways in which we can look after and nurture this part of our body.
Our launch assembly was held this morning. During this we started to explore what being brave means and how it can
look very different for different people and that this is okay.
One of the initial activities is a ’Find Your Brave’ celebration activity which we are encouraging the children to partici-
pate in over the weekend – see separate sheet that will come home with your child.
Please help us to raise awareness of the importance of supporting children and young people's mental health during the
week.
Parent Workshop Thursday 13th February 9am
This coffee morning will be a proactive workshop led by Hull & East Yorkshire Mind and our
pastoral lead, Megan Patterson, looking at ways in which to promote healthy minds and well-being in young people. It has
been possible thanks to the legacy of Team Bee following their winning Lifestyle 2019 project. Please come along
and join us—everyone welcome and encouraged to attend this fantastic opportunity to learn.
We have an upcoming meeting to dis-
cuss potential footpath improvements
outside school with an engineer and
the parish council—we will keep you
informed!

Safeguarding Savvy As part of our regular and planned curriculum focussing on safe-
guarding we have revisited our rights and responsibilities in relation to health and safety and
in particular keeping ourselves safe at all times. We have addressed this topic through class
circles, discussion and a whole school assembly over the week. Please remind your children about keeping themselves safe when leaving the school site at
the end of the day. A growing number are running up the path towards the extremely busy
road rather than walking with/near their parents and/or carers.
Morning drop off: messages must be passed to teachers via one of the
staff on the playground (wearing high visibility vest).
Please make an appointment via the office if you wish to speak to your
child’s teacher. When staff are admitting or dismissing children at the beginning/end
of the day, they will ask you to wait until they have safely dismissed all pupils before
speaking with you.

Y5/6 Swimming Gala
Friday 17 January
On Friday 17 January, a team of year 5 & 6 children took part in a local swimming gala, competing
against other schools from our area. The children swam in a range of heats and finals, using a wide variety of strokes. It was great to see the hard work from recent swimming lessons pay off.
Mrs Stanley was amazed by the effort, endurance and fantastic team spirit displayed and this
was rewarded by the team finishing 2nd overall. What an achievement, well done everyone!
