Gilgandra Show Society Inc President's Message
The 2018 show was a great success with another record crowd, a great rollup of sideshows and all livestock and pavilion sections well supported. 2018 saw the introduction of a twilight rodeo which proved to be a great highlight. The show was opened by Grace Eppelstun who grew up in Grenfell and was lucky enough to be the 2016 Sydney Royal Showgirl. She is a great advocate of young people getting involved in Agriculture. The dry conditions over the last couple of years have continued to hurt our community. With the support of funding from the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program, the Show Society took it upon themselves to organise the “Dust to Dusk” concert held in November 2018. This saw some high profile musical acts perform in our community, was well attended and was deemed a great success. As with any community event, it takes a committee of people to make the show happen. So a big thank you for the enthusiasm shown by our current committee and the huge amount of work undertaken by our secretary Madeline Foran. Also a big thank you for the ongoing support of all our sponsors and competitors, without whom the show would not happen. In 2019 we hope to have a bigger and better show again with the return of the rodeo, freestyle motorbikes and everyone’s favourite, the fireworks. Let’s all hope for a change in the weather and a return to more normal seasonal conditions. Best wishes, Alan Smith, 2018 President, Gilgandra Show Society Inc

STALLION SAFE PRACTICES GUIDELINES
Effective 01 January 2011
Equestrian Australia has, in the interests of public safety and with the assistance of the
National Sport Committees, developed the following Code of Conduct, which is a set of
guidelines available for adoption by events and organisations.
1. Stallions should wear official 'discs' at all times whilst at the venue. These discs
are to be worn on both sides of head collars and bridles or on some part of the horse on
both sides to identify to others that the horse is a stallion.
2. No stallion is to be moved around a venue without displaying the stallion discs and a
suitable restraint. The restraint can be either a bridle, a rearing bit or a chain lead rein over
the nose or under the jaw.
3. Where possible all stallions are to be stabled. If suitable stabling is not available
stallions need to wear a collar, which is securely tied to the outside of a truck or trailer.
Stallions tied to the outside of a truck or trailer MUST be supervised at all times.
4. Stallions may be substituted in prize-giving ceremonies with another horse should
the rider deem it to be safer.
22
5. It is recommended that riders and handlers of stallions at shows be over the age of 17
years; however, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to understand the full code
of conduct for stallions at events. With the exception of rule 1.1.8 in the Show Horse Rules
and Guidelines, stallions are not permitted in Show Horse classes at EA state or
championship events. All riders/handlers under the age of 17 years must be supervised
by an adult/parent/guardian whilst at the event.
6. It is the stallion owner's/rider's responsibility to ensure that all possible safety
precautions are taken.
7. Floats/Trucks that transport stallions should display the official magnet giving notice
that there is a stallion on board.
These guidelines are consistent with Equestrian Australia's focus on improving safety by
identifying risks and putting in place measures to mitigate those risks.
The use of the horse and float identification discs is compulsory at all Equestrian Australia
events. The horse and float discs are available for purchase from the National Office of
Equestrian Australia. Only the approved discs will be permitted.
Drug testing may be carried out at anytime during and before the show.

locally, nationally or internationally. All horses are required to be three years and

3. Qualifying Shows must be affiliated with Agricultural Societies Council of NSW
Ltd or Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc.
4. OTT Qualifying classes will be judged as a ridden class.
5. 5.Once a qualifier has been won, the horse cannot compete in other qualifiers with
in the season. Horses that have achieved Runner Up are able to continue in the
competition unless they win an OTT Qualifier class. The winner and runner up of
each qualifying class will by eligible to compete in the State Final.

Some Tips for Competition Cooking
1. Cakes generally should be baked an even colour all round, risen evenly with no crust or peaks on top. Icing if stated, should only be on top with no decorations unless stated.
2. Remove any lining paper from cakes, line tins carefully without creases. 3. Fruit Cakes - all fruit to be cut the same size, particularly cherries, nuts (but not too finely),
not over flavoured with spirits. 4. Sponges - the two layers should be the same depth (weigh tins), spread very thinly with
raspberry jam, no sifted icing sugar on top. Definitely no rack marks. (A good rule for all cakes, turn out onto tea towel)
5. Biscuits - must be crisp, dainty size, delicate golden colour. Generally each variety same size. Use whole rolled oats.
6. Jams - set but not rubbery, fruit soft, jam clear, no mould. Presented in jars which are clearly labelled • lids to be covered if commercial.
7. Ring tins are never used. 8. Muffins and cupcakes to be baked with papers in tins. 9. Slice Sizes - 3cm x 2cm.

DOG HIGH JUMP Run by Next Gen Ph: 0418 101 819 2pm - Saturday, 27th April 2019 $5 per entry Near the Bar Proudly sponsored by
A & C Cruickshank
Ridley International $50 for First in both small and large, $20 for Second in both small and large,
plus bags of dog food
• The competition is a test of the dog's jumping ability. • The competition is open to all dogs and bitches, small and large. • The dog is to jump over the wall; however the dog can touch any part of the jump to get
over the wall. • It is suggested that two handlers are required, with one handler releasing the dog at the
jump run up and the other handler to catch the dog on the other side of the jump. • The dogs can be encouraged over the jump by a handler, vocally or visually. • The dogs can remain on the lead during the run up and jumping, however the dogs cannot
be assisted by either handler by pushing or pulling the lead or the dog. • All dogs not jumping must be on a lead, with a handler in the marshalling area away from
the jump run area. • Only one dog may be loose in the competition area at any one time. • The owner has the right to select the height, above the minimum height, at which the dog
will commence competition. Once in the competition, dogs must jump all following jumps. • Each dog is allowed three jump attempts at each height if necessary until only one dog
remains to provide a winner. If more than one dog has jumped the final height, a count back on refusals is to be done and the dog with the least refusals will be the winner. If all are equal the prize is shared, with each dog declared joint winners.
• Dogs shall be disqualified if unsuccessful on the third attempt. • Any mishandling or misuse of any dog will incur immediate disqualification. • Bitches in season are not permitted on the ground. • Each entrant must have completed and signed the Entry Form and agree and understand
that their dog/dogs and they have entered the competition/s at their own risk and that the conveners and/or their representatives accept no responsibility for any risk or injury, however caused.
• Small dogs go first. • If your dog can jump onto a ute back, it will be entered into the large section.
