INTERMEDIATE STOPPING UNITSAvailable in two symmetric models, they are used to stop the carrier with very high precision at the intermediate positions when the carrier travels from the right, (LS-32-DX) or from the left, (LS-32-SX).A pneumatic piston, using a toggle system, lifts a mechanical, end-of-stroke stop.Without air pressure, the carrier returns to the original position using a re-set spring.And in this position the optional magnetic sensor goes on.

COMPRESSED AIR MANAGEMENT WITH AN INTERMEDIATE STOPPING UNITThe travel speed of the carrier must be adjusted by flow controllers which throttle the air coming out of the chambers (see also the pneumatic circuit).To avoid uncontrolled movements, the pressure must be balanced in both cylinder chambers (figure 3), before the air is removed from the intermediate stopping unit.

PNEUMATIC CIRCUITPossible problems on a compressed air circuit:1- Pressure variations.2- Pressurizing the empty unit at start-up.3- Sudden lack of pressure.4- Excessive drive speed.

Possible solutions to the above issues:1- External compressed air storage (A).2- Start-up valve (B).3- Safety valves (C).4- Flow controllers (D).

PIPING THE UNITThe linear unit is pressurized from the air ports on the end side plates using two G1/8 air fittings and proper tubing (not supplied).The intermediate stopping unit is pressurized through its fitting with Ø4mm tubing (not supplied).Compressed air must be filtered using a 5 to 40 micron filter.The initial choice on air lubrication (lubricated or not) must be kept for the entire service life of the unit.The pneumatic circuit must be pressurized progressively to avoid uncontrolled movements.

HEAD COVERThe end cover plates can be removed by removing the (2) bolts.There are (7) detachable, pre-cut diaphragms which can be easily removed using a screwdriver.

The diaphragms 1-7 are in front of the end-of-stroke grub screws (or supplementary shock absorbers).

The diaphragm 2 is in front of the fitting for compressed air supply.

The diaphragms 3-4-5-6 are used to allow extracting other tubing and cables.

MOUNTINGThe unit can be mounted to a static or moving part.Use (4) M8 bolts (B) to mount the unit to the end side plates.It is also possible to use (4) M6 bolts (A) and the two Ø6mm pins (C).Allow room to open the covers.

To mount the load on the carrier, use the (12) threaded holes, (M6x10mm), (4) dowel pin holes, (Ø6H8x 12mm), and (4) dowl pin holes, (Ø3H8x8mm).The picture below shows the mounting of the linear actuator M25 using the interface mounting plate # I26.

SAFETY LOADSCheck the following tables and graphs.Excessive loads can damage the unit, cause malfunctions and endanger the safety of the operator.Fx, Fz, Mx, My, Mz are the maximum permitted loads.The load factor LF must be lower than 1.

The admissible kinetic energy in a single impact depends on the number of shock absorbers used and on their distance from the center of gravity of the load on the carrier.If, as in the example shown, the center of gravity is at a distance of 200mm, the admissible kinetic energy with two shock absorbers is E2=24J, while with only one standard shock absorber is E1=10J.

The load m [kg] and the medium travel speed v [m/s] must amount to a kinetic energy value lower than the permitted one.For example, if the load is 12kg and the speed is 1.2m/s, the corresponding energy is 22J, permitted if lower than E2=24J.

Nh is the number of permitted cycles per hour: it is determined by the following graph.For example, if the energy value is 22J per shock and two shock-absorbers are used, a maximum number of (1900) impacts per hour is possible.

ENERGY CHAINThe energy chain can be fitted on one side of the unit, hiding it completely under the side cover.This chain can carry compressed air tubing and cables for sensors.The tubing runs in to the (6) leads of the carrier through M5 fittings (not supplied), while six Ø4.2mm thru holes are provided for cables.

SENSORSThe position is detected by magnetic proximity sensors (optional) through a magnet placed on the piston.The same type of sensor can be used to detect the status of the intermediate stopping unit.Magnetic proximity sensors should not be used in the vicinity of large masses of ferromagnetic material or intense magnetic fields as this may cause detection problems and jeopardize proper operation.

CAUTIONNever let the unit come into contact with corrosive substances, powders, or soldering or welding spatter as they will damage the slide.Keep the drive belt groove free from dirt and foreign bodies.Never let non-authorized persons or objects be within the operating range of the slide. Never operate the slide on a machine that does not comply with the safety standards and laws of your country.

MAINTENANCEThe preloading of the carrier bearings are set at the factory.ADJUSTING SCREWS TO MODIFY THE PRE-LOAD.

Periodically check the efficiency of the shock-absorbers and replace them immediately if their damping performances decrease.

Periodically check the guide columns and lubricate them when dry.The suitable grease is available in 90 gram tubes; part # GLP500-90.
