Shelford was established in 1898, and its motto is Quaerite Primo Regnum Dei. The Latin word Quaerite is derived from Quaere meaning to seek, search, investigate or inquire, and it has been the inspiration for the innovative Quaerite Program at Shelford.

The Quaerite Program from Prep to Year 12 is based on Shelford’s core values. It encourages students to discover their strengths and passions, to develop a love of learning and a desire to make a positive contribution to society, to respect people and the environment, to search for a deeper understanding of their own social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs and those of others, and to develop a sense of their own rights and responsibilities.

It also develops effective thinking dispositions such as the ability to be open-minded and to consider other points of view, to give appropriate reasons for opinions, to develop resilience and the ability to persevere when things are complex, to embrace challenges and to respond with curiosity, imagination and innovative thinking.

Our Junior School Shelford is proud of its academic tradition. Shelford students benefit from an all girls’ environment where the learning is tailored for the ways that girls learn best.

In Junior School there is a strong literacy and numeracy focus. Small class sizes ensure that every girl is well known and is able to receive individual attention. The teaching and learning environment challenges and stimulates students to achieve their personal best within all facets of their development - academic, physical, social, emotional and spiritual. Students are encouraged to be resilient and to persevere when faced with a challenge. At Shelford the staff recognise that students exhibit a wide range of abilities, interests and learning styles and they provide appropriate experiences to challenge and stimulate.

Shelford is a non-selective entry school that welcomes students from a diversity of backgrounds. It has a strong academic tradition, exceptional Performing Arts and Visual Arts programs, extensive sporting opportunities and an impressive range of subjects.

Open Days provide an excellent opportunity to see the School in action, and to meet the Principal, students and key members of staff.

I/We wish to register our daughter on the waiting list for admission to Shelford Girls’ Grammar. We acknowledge and agree that any admission of her to the School will be on the following terms and conditions:

Application Fee: a student’s name will be placed on the Shelford enrolment list following the receipt of the Application for Enrolment form and the payment of the non-refundable application fee of $150. Whilst you need to make an application to gain admission, making an application does not guarantee admission.

Enrolment Fee: a non-refundable fee of $1,200 is payable upon acceptance of an offer of a place.

Fees in Advance: tuition fees are billed one instalment in advance. One instalment will be paid in the year prior to entry to Shelford. Thereafter four instalments will be paid each year other than the final year when three instalments are paid.

Notice of Withdrawal: one complete term’s notice, in writing to the Principal, is required for the withdrawal of a student from the School. One term’s fee is payable if the requisite notice is not given. If this withdrawal is on a temporary basis and due to exceptional circumstances, a shorter period may be mutually agreed between Shelford and the parent/guardian. No refund of fees will be made. To guarantee a place on return, full fees must be paid during the time of absence.

Discretion regarding the acceptance or continuance of any student in the School rests with the Principal.

Arrears in fees may jeopardise a student’s place at Shelford.

Students enrolled after the beginning of any term shall be charged fees pro-rata for the remainder of that term only.

No reduction in fees may be made in respect of absence because of sickness or any other cause.

Parents/guardians agree to support the School in the enforcement of its Positive Behaviours Policy and in the maintenance of the School’s standards of behaviour.

Every student admitted to the School is expected to follow School policies, procedures and standards of behaviour. Failure to observe these may result in disciplinary action and jeopardise a student’s continued enrolment at the School.

There is no guarantee that subjects offered in one year will be available in any other year. The Principal has discretion to cease offering any subject or course even though there may have been earlier notice that the particular subject or course will be offered.

Fee Conditions The Tuition Fee is calculated on the assumption that

the grants received from the Commonwealth and State Governments will be maintained.

The Consolidated Fee is allocated towards the cost of such items as sport equipment, transport and Girls Sport Victoria Association fees, camps, incursions, excursions, library expenses, facility maintenance and replacement and information technology costs including provision of computers in lieu of a compulsory laptop program.
