North South GIS India Pvt Ltd.
GIS Based Network Outage Planning and Scheduling System
Overview
•Electricity distribution companies benchmarks by the duration and frequency of Network
disruptions to their customers.
•Carefully Planning the network disruptions
•Financially penalized when the targets are breached.
•Vegetation management is a key component for planned network disruptions
•Network Outage planning addresses the following solutions.
(a) Vegetation management as pre-maintenance
(b) Outage management as planned, Scheduled and approved work flow management
Data and Technology Used
Data
1. Base Map : Bing Maps Street View
2. Geo database Layers
1. Distribution Transformer
2. Electrical Poles
3. HT & LT Feeders
4. Vegetation
3. Non Spatial
1. Consumers Information
Technology
1. HTML 5
2. jQuery
3. Arc Map
4. Arc GIS Java script API 3.6

Planning an Outage for an area
SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index )
Scheduling an Outage
•Select the Planned Outage on
Map
•Validate with data whether
any outage is scheduled in that
area.
•Already exists in the
scheduled date; modified the
schedule date and change the
status to scheduled.
Approve the Outage
•Select the Scheduled
Outage from Map, and
Validate SAIDI Value is
crossed the Threshold in
that month or not.
•If Crossed he has to
reschedule the Date.
•Otherwise Approved the
Outage.
SAIDI = (Total Interruption Duration * Total No. of Effected consumers)
Total Consumers count
Display all the Outages
Displayed all the active outages on the map with different color.
Yellow : Planned Blue : Scheduled Green : Approved
SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index)
Displays SAIDI values of all categories under Selected Year. We can export graph to pdf/ png.
Displays the Cut + Trim Notice with trees under the Selected Tree Owner. Here we have to upload the
Pre-Cut and Post-Cut images of each tree and the upload the Tree owner Signature (if available)

Conclusion
• GIS technology was useful in simplifying the Outage planning, approval and monitoring
workflows
• This platform has proven to minimize the frequency of Network Power Outages by various
works streams combining their works during a single outage.
