ILI BASED PIPELINE GIS IMPROVEMENT AND MAINTENANCE

Page 2: GIS DATA IMPROVEMENT - proceedings.esri.com

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

➢ Pipeline GIS data comes from a widely variable mix of spatial data with often unknown accuracy

➢ GIS systems were built from as-built records

➢ GIS systems can be inaccurate for a number of reasons

➢ Inconsistent or inaccurate as-builting practices

➢ Inaccurate or missed data collection in the field

➢ Challenges transferring data between the field and the office resulting in incomplete packages for the GIS team to work from

HOW CAN WE MAKE IT BETTER?

➢ Ensure new data going into the GIS are complete and accurate

➢ Correct the data already in the GIS

ENSURE NEW DATA GOING INTO THE GIS ARE COMPLETE AND ACCURATE

4

➢ Mobile as-built and inspection data collection

➢ Latitude/Longitude instead of only stationing

➢ More reliable and resilient location information

➢ Project Record Management System

➢ Compile, centralize and validate as-built and TVC documentation

➢ Provides visibility and closeout process

CORRECT THE DATA ALREADY IN THE GIS

➢ Leverage information from ILI data

➢ Valves, Casings, Sleeves, Taps, Tees, Flanges, and Welds are identified

➢ IMU/INS based ILI data gives us spatial locations of features

➢ Provide Latitudes and Longitudes along with Station Values

➢ Compare ILI data to GIS data to determine what features need to be added, removed, or edited

➢ Multiple years/runs of ILI data analyzed increasing confidence for decision making

➢ Through linear referencing and spatial adjustment, even non-IMU ILI Data can be leveraged

➢ High Resolution Imagery increases confidence in location accuracy

➢ Filters by asset type

➢ Creates linear features for Casings and Sleeves

➢ Groups Assets by proximity

➢ Assigns Confidence Value

➢ Preliminary Analysis of ILI data compared to GIS data

➢ Feature Classes for each asset type are created with a defined schema
