Giveaway Auction Extravaganza Camp Fire

What can I expect tonight? - Each and every holder of a $350 ticket, in an order to be determined by drawings of names, the wind of bingo

balls, and fleetness of feet, may choose any prize among those that remain.

How will it work? - Each guest who bought a ticket has his/her name in the drawing at the front of the room. The bingo ball machine

at the front of the room has colored bingo balls and there is space designated on the display board for each color.

- At the beginning of the program (about 6:00 pm), 4 names for each color are picked out of the bowl and the

corresponding name plates are placed on the display board.

- Then, the bingo machine does its thing and determines the color of the first four ticket holders, and it is their turn.

They take their name plates off the board, and each places his/her name plate next to the title of the selected

item, and collects the item’s number. The number will be used to claim the prize. Four more names are drawn

for that color. This process continues until every prize is chosen.

- If the machine chooses the “Wild” color, then we will pull a name out of the bowl to choose a prize immediately!

Will there be any live-auction items? - Yes! This live-auction is in addition to every ticket holder’s receiving a Giveaway prize.

Extras... - The Master of Ceremonies and auctioneer for the evening is Troy McVicker. Troy is the President of Event

Source Northwest. Scotty is running the soundboard. Any left-over giveaway prizes will be sold at the end of the evening at a discount. Other surprises throughout the evening!

Is there anything to eat? - Yes! Thanks to the catering team at the Holiday Inn, a delicious dinner will be provided. Included will be: Italian

Let’s Make a Difference Together! In the midst of this evening’s program we will have the opportunity to donate to Camp Fire’s Campship Fund. This Fund is used annually to send more than 200 low-income children to Camp Killoqua. The children come with a variety of special circumstances which keep their families from being able to afford a camping experience or which impacts the need for the child to participate in the program. “Raise Your Paddle!” You will be asked by the emcee to raise your bid number when the specific amount you wish to pledge is called out. We will record your bid number and the amount of your pledge. You may pay on auction night or Camp Fire will be pleased to bill you. We have seen the results of spending a week at Camp Killoqua. It is a time of fun, exploration, and learning. It is a place where lifelong friendships are made and resilience is created. Under the guidance of caring and well trained counselors, children enjoy swimming, boating, hiking, crafts, camp fires with s’mores and singing, with many other exciting activities. If you haven’t seen our pristine setting of forests, trails, and beautiful Crabapple Lake, you owe yourself a visit! If you are a child who has been impacted by homelessness, poverty, violence, a disability, grief, or foster care, going to camp can give you a positive experience to fall back on. It will allow you to feel a part of a group doing fun activities in the moment. It can build self-esteem, gain a friend, relate to an adult, and even learn how to find a champion for your own personal sparks! We believe that children need a “fun experience break” to give them the resiliency they need to build upon. Camp Fire knows that a one week stay at Killoqua won’t solve all the problems in a child’s life but it is an experience that can change their perspective and give them the encouragement that they need for the struggle. Where does the lodge’s name (Zulu Nyala) come from? Zulu is the name of a tribe. Many members work at the lodge, and you can also tour their village if you want. They live very primitively, and sell many handmade items. A nyala is an animal with long hair on its neck and back. The lodge is known for having a very large herd of nyalas. What language is spoken there? The main language is English. Many of the natives only speak Zulu, but are able to communicate with English speakers well enough to sell things to them. How would I get there? First, you take a flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. From there, you take another flight to Richard’s Bay. Then, you have the option to either rent a car or pay to have someone from Zulu Nyala pick you up. To drive from Johannesburg takes approximately five and one half hours. How much does the flight cost? Generally, flights cost between $1,300 and $1,750. They tend to vary based on the time of year and how far ahead of the trip they are booked. However, there are several websites on the internet that offer plane tickets at a reduced price making it is possible to fly for as little as $900. When is the best time of the year to visit Africa? Africa’s winter months, which are from May to August, are the most appealing time to visit for several reasons. First, the temperature is comfortable. It tends to be in the 70s during the day and in the 40s at night. Also, most of the grass is dead and the trees are bare. This means that the animals are active and can easily be observed. In addition, the pineapple fields and banana plantations are a worthwhile sight to see. Summer Season – September to April Winter Season – May to August Temperature – 60-90 F Temperature – 32-70 F

What to pack At Zulu Nyala, formal clothes are not necessary. We generally recommend that people bring shorts & cotton T-Shirts, good comfortable walking shoes, casual lightweight cotton, khaki or neutral colored clothes for safari, fleece or sweater and a warm jacket for game drive or cool evenings, wide brimmed hat, personal toiletries, sun barrier cream and lip creams, binoculars, camera, converter to recharge your camera (we use 3 round pin plug – 220V) and accessories, sunglasses. For a very low cost, you can get your clothing laundered at the lodge.

Medical There are excellent private medical practitioners in most towns and a top class hospital at nearby Richards Bay. It is advisable to use a mosquito spray or cream for the outdoors, especially at night.

What is the procedure for game drives? Upon your arrival at Zulu Nyala, you will be assigned a ranger. He or she will be your chauffeur on the game drives and will be available to answer any questions that you may have. What will we eat? The meals are extraordinary. The auction package includes three delicious meals per day, prepared by the finest international chefs, with an African flavor of course. You will be given two different choices each day for your meat, potato, vegetable, soup, and salad. Also, every meal will include extras, like fresh fruit, cheeses, and crackers.
