Why do Catholics bless themselves with Holy Water when they enter
the Church?
The Holy Water is a reminder of our baptism and the beginning of our life in Christ and His
Church.
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY Rev. William J. Reilly
“What does the Scripture say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith that we preach), for if you confess with your mouth that
Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
We have launched the Holy Season of Repentance and Reform. It is not just a change in the calendar, but a moment in which
we are summoned to repentance, admit our need for the Savior. We are called in two directions, to re-form our own lives, and to
walk the Lenten journey with others.
Our resolve to live Lent 2019 is truly important. The saving work of Jesus is at work in us, and through us, for others. Jesus’
mission focuses on Calvary, His death and resurrection. The church too, in its mission to evangelize asks us to focus on
Jesus, His cross, and our salvation. We are not just revisiting former Lents, or the first Good Friday, we ask that the paschal
mystery touch, penetrate and transform us. We move from the word on our lips to the belief in our hearts that Jesus is here to save us today. ‘Lord, by your cross and resurrection, you have set us free. You are the Savior of the
world.’ ‘What stands between us and God?’
“Lent is a time of going very deeply into ourselves. What is it that stands between us and God? Between us and our brothers and sisters? Between us and life, the life of the
Spirit? Whatever it is, let us relentlessly tear it out, without a moment’s hesitation.”
St. Josemaría Escrivá

Respect Life Society
Spiritual Adoption Program will begin in our Parish on March 23 -24th weekend. There will be a paper for you to sign to pray for an unborn child for the 9 months of pregnancy. You can choose a girl or boy and name them. There will be the prayer of Archbishop Fulton Sheen which is said each day. We will keep you informed of the development of the baby throughout these 9 months. Let us stay active in defending life. There are many things we can do. 40 Days for Life starts this week on Ash Wednesday, March 6th. There are sites in Danbury, Greenburg, and Poughkeepsie. For more information, call Peg at 628-8997. Pregnancy Centers always need volunteers – contact Birthright of Peekskill at 914-737-0344. At home say a daily Rosary for pregnant women and the health and safety of their unborn child. Join us at the Cenacles of Life on Thursdays from 3-4pm when we pray for priests and the unborn. Speak to your friends about life issues. Pray, pray for all life issues.
