September– October 2015 Exec Bits
Lisa Olk, Executive Director
WOW, what a busy summer we have just wrapped up!! We have hosted 4 major events in the
last 4 months. Time, planning, coordination, sponsors, partnerships, volunteers, coordination a
lots and lots of meetings are what it takes to make each of these events possible. Here is a brief
rundown of our summer events.
The 10th Annual Bonnie City Blues & Brews took place on May 16, 2015. Despite colder, rainy
weather, we had roughly 375 participants. Over 75% of our attendees were from out of the
Glasgow area. We are now in the planning phases of next year’s events. If you have any
suggestions or ideas please let us know. The tentative date is May 14th, 2016.
On June 20th, 2015 we held the Longest Dam Race at the Downstream Campground in Kiwanis
Park in Fort Peck, MT. This was a record breaking year for us as over 440 runners/walkers
participated. Participants represented 12 states and only 195 of the participants were from our
area. Next year’s date is June 18th, 2016
The 28th annual Montana Governor’s Cup Walleye Tournament had its most successful year in
over 13 years. The tournament filled approximately 3 weeks prior to the event and we had over
10 teams on the waiting list. Over $100,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, making this the
highest paying tournament in Montana. This was by far the best organized tournament in years.
I cannot say thank you enough to all the fishermen, sponsors, volunteers, board of directors
and staff. You guys ROCK!!! I feel next year we will be full again only much sooner. The
economic impact to our area over the two week period was huge. Our tournament in
scheduled for July 7-9th, 2016.
Finally rounding up the month of August, we held our annual Red Ball Golf Tournament at
Sunnyside Golf and Country Club. We had 21 four person teams participating. Next year the
tournament is slated for August 13th, 2016.
All of these events brought people in from across the country and our community was
showcased. They exposed our community and Fort Peck to our recreation, hospitality, culture
and quality of life. They also brought “NEW” dollars to our area. Thank you to all of the
businesses and individuals that continue to support our events.
Homecoming is scheduled for October 2nd & 3rd, 2015. Back this year will be the Saskatoon
Police Pipes & Drums! The Chamber encourages vendors, merchants, clubs, organizations,
musicians & all citizens to be a part of Glasgow Homecoming Weekend. There will be prizes for
best decorated window display. Spirit week will be as follows: Monday– Preppy Day, Tuesday–
