PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
On behalf of the Management Committee – Welcome everyone to the 2017/18 season!
The Management Committee is responsible on behalf of the members for the
overarching management of the Surf Life Saving, Competition and Bar and Bistro. Each area
has its own sub-committee where everyone pitches in to help out from being an Age Group
Manager, to patrols, to clothing, to helping out for a few hours once a month in the bistro.
The names of all the various position holders are maintained on the website, including
the contact details, the areas are split into Seniors and Juniors but we are all one Club. Each
Saturday at 5pm the Club runs the “Roll Call” where pertinent business is shared amongst the
members. This is also a good time to catch up with your fellow Clubbies and say hi!
The Club uses a variety of communication methods, the website
(www.glenelgslsc.com.au), Facebook (Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club) which is a closed group
and you need to connect to it and request access, SMS and email. Please when you register
check that your email and mobile phone contact details are up to date.
The Club offers many training opportunities in First Aid, Surf Life Saving, Mental Health,
Child Safety and of course we have some great coaches that teach technique and run
programs across the many disciplines that Surf offers. These are listed on the website and
Facebook notifications are sent out.
The Club prides itself of being a good all-rounder, providing a balance of opportunities
across patrolling, rescue, surf sports, and loads of social activities. This provides lots of choices
in Surf Life Saving depending on your particular interest and skill.
The Board and I look forward to working with you all this year. Let’s keep our beaches
safe and maintain the high patrolling standards that Glenelg provides.
Georgie Cole

JAC SEASON WELCOME
Welcome to Season 2017/18.
At Glenelg Nippers we pride ourselves on being a family club. Our aim is to conduct a fun, educational, and confidence-building program for your children – with parents as active participants in the Saturday afternoon sessions. All Committee members, Age Group Managers, BBQ and Uniform Shop Coordinators are volunteers and need your support. To run the weekly activities, we constantly need more volunteers for water safety, BBQ, and setting up the beach. All parents have a role to play in continuing the Clubs growth throughout the season. and improve the resources for our children. When EVERYONE does their bit – EVERYONE has a great time.
The purpose of this Information Booklet is to provide you 2017/18 Season specific information, such as training and event schedules, BBQ roster, and contact details. For comprehensive information about Glenelg SLSC Juniors Policies on Safety, Competition and Carnival Selection and Procedures, Communication, Age Group Competencies, and Codes of Conduct please read the ‘updated’ GSLSC Juniors Policy Handbook (available on the club website).
As with every season, we have a group of sponsors whose donations are critical to the success of the Juniors program and the general running of the club. These businesses have pledged their support to the GSLSC and we would hope you could reciprocate by considering these businesses whenever you are in the market for a service they offer. The list of sponsors can be found further into the Season Information Booklet.
We have made some changes to the Saturday training schedule this year that we hope will benefit the Nippers, their families, and the Club as a whole. Other changes this season include, the expansion of Branch Carnivals, which will see more friendly competition and socialisation with other Holdfast Bay Surf Life Saving Clubs (Sommerton, Brighton, and Seacliff). We would like to hear what you think of these changes and are always open to suggestions that will further improve the Nippers experience for our families, so please speak to us directly or email any feedback through to [email protected].
Thank you for choosing to be a part of our Club this summer. We look forward to enjoying a safe and successful season with your family. We invite you to read this booklet, we hope it is useful and will answer any questions that you have about the season ahead.
Warm Regards Junior Activities Committee (JAC)

SATURDAY BBQ ROSTER In previous years, we have had a couple of dedicated parents who have worked the
BBQ each Saturday. Serving sausages and drinks to the Nippers at the end of their training session as well as public passers-by. In order to more fairly spread the workload among our Club family we will be using a roster that requires a different age group to run the BBQ each Saturday.
All food and equipment will be coordinated by BBQ coordinator, Dinah Crowe. Dinah will ensure stock and setup each week and will be there to help answer any questions. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm. This is an important fundraiser for the Juniors Program and we appreciate your support with the roster system. Requirements each week from Age Group responsible for BBQ;
2.30PM – 4.30pm SALES
• 2 x Adults to sell sausages and drinks and supervise till.
4.30PM PACK UP • 2 x Adults, to pack up table, marque and drinks fridge.
Please Note: You can arrange for more people to do shorter shifts but these are the minimum requirements.
