ISLAM IS A RELIGION OF UNITY

Hajj is a journey of life, and we many learn many things during this journey. We see submission clearly

during hajj, and after the submission we need love – loving Allah and loving what Allah loves and loving

people for the sake of Allah.

Islam is a religion of unity and what bonds all of us together is ( هللا اال اله ال )

A glimpse of unity can clearly be seen during hajj, which we need to carry forth in our life.

THE BELIEVERS ARE BROTHERS

This is a promise and bond from Allah that He initiated. And the bond between us is not an earthly

bond, but a divine bond ordained by Allah. It is more beautiful than a blood relation.

And what makes you have this bond? It depends on your level of faith, and you will attract those

similar to your level. The believers will have this attraction to other believers. This divine bond is very

strong because they are being united by Allah.

Hadith: ( تحاسدوا، وال تباغضوا، وال تدابروا، وال تقاطعوا ال " : موسل عليه هللا صلى هللا رسول قال : قال عنه هللا رضي أنس وعن

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Do not desert) (" ثالث فوق أخاه يهجر أن لمسلم يحل وال إخوانًا، هللا عباد وكونوا

(stop talking to) one another, do not nurse hatred towards one another, do not be jealous of one

another, and become as fellow brothers and slaves of Allah. It is not lawful for a Muslim to stop talking

to his brother (Muslim) for more than three days.") – Al Bukhari

Hadith: ( المؤمن، أخو المؤمن " : قال وسلم عليه هللا صلى هللا رسول أن عامر بن عقبة وعن ) (The Messenger of Allah

(PBUH) said, "A Mu'min is the brother of another Mu'min) – Muslim.

People are united under different umbrellas around the world, but the believers are united under ( اله ال

هللا اال ).

Allah wants all of us to be united, that’s why even the worships in Islam are there to enforce that bond.

That’s why you have the congregation prayer, fasting, hajj, etc. The manners and worships are there to

enforce that bond and keep it strong.

The ayat of the Quran and the hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) are there to keep that bond and Allah

forbade us from things that can separate us.

WHAT CAN BREAK THE BOND? AND WHAT KEEPS IT?

That’s why when two people love for the sake of Allah, a separation can take place when someone

commits sin because that is what causes separation. The sins can spoil the belief and bond. For

example, two people are together and a sin is committed like thinking bad about the other person, or

being envious, or being proud. Despite a small sin it can cause a separation.

Don’t be unjust to the person, or betray or humiliate another person, because that will surely spoil the

bond and the brotherhood. If there is a problem you need to reconcile and fix it, and taqwa is needed.

Meaning doing what Allah commands you to do, and refraining from what Allah has forbidden, upon

light from Allah. Meaning having love, hope, and fear of Allah.

So what keeps a bond strong – it is the taqwa.

To be united in the heart is a beautiful bond and though we are meeting from different locations, we

are all connected by the heart.

And with the taqwa, Allah will give you the mercy and goodness in this life and the next. When people

gather for the sake of Allah, mercy surrounds them, and the angels gather around them reaching the

7th heaven, and Allah boasts about them. Subhan Allah.

May Allah make us together in this life and the next. Ameen.

UNITY OF THE PEOPLE IN HAJJ

During the hajj, you can see so much unity, and that is from Allah. You will see people of different

colors and there is no one color better than the other.

ALLAH WANTS US TO BE UNITED

Allah gave us blood bonds because by default we are born, but Allah wants us to have that bond for His

sake and to be united for His sake. That is why Allah nurtures His believers to be united for His sake.

And this you can clearly see during hajj. Allah wants to teach you during your journey of hajj. It is a

school to teach you love, submission, and unity. I want to learn how to be united and to be strong

together.

The colors of the rainbow are beautiful together, when you separate the colors, it is no longer

beautiful. And Islam is teaching us to keep these ‘colors of the rainbow’ united because that is what is

beautiful.

UNITED IN ONE PLACE, UNITED IN ONE TIME, UNITED FOR ONE DEED

One Place: People during hajj are all gathering to one place at the same time.

One Time: On days 8,9,10 are all together, and they are going like one wave. And in this life is how we

want to be, going together all to the pleasure of Allah.

One Deed: And they are all united for performing the same deed. Even people who are not going to

hajj feel they are going there. Even in Ramadan, everyone is fasting, praying in congregation, and

meeting for study circles. So you see the unity in worships and the blessings comes when we are

united.

HAPPINESS WHEN WE ARE UNITED

When we are united, we will have the happiness. When we are alone, it is like a misery.

WE WERE ONCE ENEMIES AND ALLAH PLACED THE LOVE IN OUR HEARTS

Allah enjoins taqwa and unity and forbids division and separation. For example lying and arguing, these

are some of the causes of separation. And we need to remember the favor of Allah that we were once

enemies before faith and Allah united our hearts.

And when we are united we need to attribute it to Allah, there is no other reason except that it is a

blessing from Allah. And taqwa is what keep us strong. And when we are united we will be strong

believers. When we are alone it will be even difficult for us to defeat our own self and the shaitan.

So do not separate and be together.

THE PROPHET (PBUH) WAS SENT IN A TIME CONFLICT AND COMMANDED TO UNITE THE HEARTS

Before the Prophet (pbuh) was sent to the people, they were divided and in war despite being from

the same tribes, and the Prophet (pbuh) came and was commanded by Allah to unite the hearts.

That’s why the Prophet (pbuh) encouraged them to pray together and to be in one line and to dress

similarly. So even physically to be the same affects your heart. Imagine if you are dressed the same you

are united and it gives you strength.

Imagine when you are wearing the same and this can be seen during the hajj and that gives you the

strength and unity. We are all here for the same purpose. We need our hearts to be united before our

outer.

COMMANDED TO PERFORM THE HAJJ – ‘STRONG AS A BUILDING ’

The Prophet (pbuh) was presenting them with different ayat of the Quran but there is nothing that can

have as strong an effect to unite the people except for the hajj. And this is reminding us to pull this

through after hajj.

The Prophet (pbuh) performed hajj only once in his life and the Companions were left strong as a

building. Note: Lecture is cut-off for the last 10 minutes.
