Confidence

Students in grades K-12 are spending time talking about academic and social

confidence. Teachers are encouraging confidence by inviting students to participate in

live class, engage in online discussions, and scheduling time for upcoming clubs and

social events.

Students are also learning how to advocate for themselves by taking responsibility for

their learning and asking for help when they need it. High school students are

completing game “quests” in their advisory classes which include skill-building for

lifelong success. Part of the games and discussion include topics on grit &

determination, positive mind-set, and academic & social confidence as part of a school

success plan.

Consider discussing what makes you feel confident (and where you lack confidence)

with your classmates, children/parents, and friends. Discuss a strategy for increasing

confidence in those areas where you may need to focus.

It has been wonderful and inspiring to see our students’ confidence grow as they find a

“groove” at PGA and begin to see their hard work paying off.

Happy October,

Mrs. Hiebsch

What is the one piece of advice you would give

to another student (or LC)?

Students and Learning Coaches can email Mrs. Hiebsch to be

entered into a School Communication prize drawing! You may

even see your response on the school website!

PE News

We are happily settled into our PE routine after a few weeks of school! We have

been focusing on class cooperation and keeping our bodies in control while

practicing various locomotor movements. Your kiddos should have some fun games

to share with you! Next up – Soccer!

I am currently working towards my Yoga Calm teaching certification, which is a

secular style of yoga designed specifically for instruction in public schools. I do

incorporate 5-10 minutes of the curriculum into my classes to help students transition

from different energy level activities, help gain coping skills and confidence and/or

warm up the body for more vigorous physical exercises. (Ask your child about belly

breathing and when we could use them). If you have questions or concerns, do not

hesitate to contact me: [email protected]. You can also read more about Yoga

Calm at yogacalm.org.

Also, free before-school Yoga Calm classes will be coming soon! Watch Monday

Memos for more info. Thank you for sharing your children with me. Make it a

healthy day!

Celebrations & Student Highlights

Elementary Student Highlight (K-5)

Katelyn Hays 5th Grade

Katelyn Hays is an awesome leader in the 4th and 5th grade classroom. Katelyn is in

her third year at PGA. She is a great student to look to for advice in online classes, both

k12 and 6th grade math in Blackboard, on campus academics, and behavior. Katelyn is

a great friend and always exhibits the SOAR principles. Great job Katelyn!

High School Student Highlight (9-12)

Clara Phillips, 8th Grade

Clara Phillips is a new PGA 8th grader who recently moved to Fort Collins from

Salida, Colorado. In addition to being a terrific student, Clara competes in barrel

racing. She says she's been riding "since I was about two!" Clara trains several times

a month, and in between she rides at least once a day. She also helps care for the

family's other animals; they have 14 horses, 13 chickens, two cows, and two pigs.

In the winter, Clara likes to ski. We're thrilled that Clara has brought her bright smile

and amazing attitude to our 8th grade class. Welcome to PGA, Clara!

High School Student Highlight (9-12)

Camila Steele, 11th

Camila is new to PGA and has had a stellar start to the year! She works hard to be

successful in all her classes and starts each day with a positive mindset. Camila is an

excellent example of a student that plans out her school days, reaches out to her

teachers when she has questions, and makes the extra effort to get to know her

classmates and be involved in her class community. She is showing great ownership

of her learning and we are so excited to have her as part of the PGA student body this

year. You are a rock star Camila!
