Global Citizen is an intensive international volunteer abroad experience that enables you to work on projects that impact social issues. Empower communities by developing the people and enabling them to develop a more sustainable and healthy future.

AIESEC’s various exchange activities are run to have an impact on the participants, the AIESEC members involved in making them happen, the company/organization taking the trainee, the communities the trainee is coming from and going to and through all this, the society. As such, all people who are involved in the exchange process are important in achieving the intended result.

AIESEC provides exchange participants opportunities to develop professional skills in new cultural settings. Our volunteers gain hands-on experience working with NGOs and small businesses in communities to develop relevant and culturally suitable solutions to local problems. Projects surrounding this issue may be in the fields of marketing, microfinance, NGO management, social business, or organizational development.

Protecting the environment is a major part of the global development agenda and exchange participants can directly impact communities, struggling with moving towards, becoming a little bit greener. Promote and participate in sustainable development projects regarding energy conservation, pollution, climate change, flora and fauna conservation, recycling, and waste management.

Over 45 % of the world’s population is under 25 years old. AIESEC allows exchange participants to engage in the development of youth in communities where education and access to literacy is uncommon. While there, volunteers are immersed in the local culture, gaining and offering a global perspective to local communities. Projects in youth empowerment are literacy, social work, youth education, or cross-cultural awareness.

Global Citizen fee: 150€. It could be split it in two payments. The first one (75€) after passing the interview with us, this will cover the support from members of AIESEC in Latvia during your exchange quest in our international platform, The second one (75€) will include the Outgoing Preparation Seminar and support from the entity/country that will host you during the internship.

THE AIM OF A TRAINEESHIP SHALL BE TO PROVIDE THE PARTICIPANT WITH THE FOLLOWING: − A positive learning experience − Practical skills in a foreign environment to complement his/her

education

− Interaction with social issues in the host community and country and/or territory

− Interaction with a new social and cultural environment − Preparation for future management responsibilities − Opportunity to apply skills, attitudes and values at work and in the

community

− Awareness and knowledge of social issues and different practices in the host country

THE AIM OF A TRAINEESHIP IS NOT:

− To provide an opportunity that the sole purpose is earning money

− A holiday − Intended to be a permanent career placement or recruitment

opportunity in another country. If the company/organisation decides to employ the trainee on a permanent basis in the host country and/or territory,

− AIESEC will have no role in facilitating this. − A vehicle for any person to permanently leave their home

country and/or territory. AIESEC does not encourage the extension of traineeships beyond agreed upon limits.

COUNTRY PARTNERS: AIESEC is present in 125 countries and we focus on creating volunteer opportunities in developing and less economically developed countries. Because of this, there are almost no volunteer projects available in regions such as western Europe. If you’re searching for a program that will let you work for 6 weeks in Paris or London, the Global Citizen program is not for you.
