Plan• Introduction

• Investigate types of pollution

• Consider major problems of

environmental pollution

• Find solutions of global contamination

• Conclusion

ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Environmental Pollution can be defined as any undesirable change in physical, chemical, or biological characteristics of any component of the environment i.e. air, water, soil which can cause harmful effects on various forms of life or property.

Pollution: The term pollution can be defined as influence of any substance causing nuisance, harmful effects, and uneasiness to the organisms

Pollutant:- Any substance causing Nuisance or harmful effects or uneasiness to the organisms, then that particular substance may be called as the pollutant.

TYPES OF POLLUTIONWATER POLLUTION

AIR POLLUTION

LAND POLLUTION

NOISE POLLUTION

SOIL POLLUTION

Air pollutant impacts• Greenhouse effect

• Ozone depletion

• acidification

• smog formation

• eutrophication

• human health

• ecosystem health

CAUSES OF AIR POLLUTION

Carbon dioxide-this happens because of Deforestation and fossil fuel burning.

Sulfur dioxide –Due to the burning of sulfur containing compounds of fossil fuels.

Sulfur oxides- very dangerous to humans at a high concentration. Sulfur in the atmosphere is responsible for acid rain.

Pollution causes not only

physical disabilities

but also psychological and

behavioral disorders in people.

Economic effects

EPA places limits on the number of grams/mile of

hydrocarbons, nitrogen dioxide and

carbon monoxide emitted per automobile.

The automobile industry satisfies these standards

by equipping cars with catalytic converters.

In turn, this device raises the cost of cars.

Disadvantages:

- Allow emission of less than the standard free of charge;

- Firms are restricted in the method of compliance;

- Does not take into account differences among firms;

- Does not take into account differences among regions.

How to Avoid Air Pollution

• Use natural Gases, like LPG

(Liquefied Petroleum Gas) autos.

• Do not Burst Crackers.

• Use less Amount of Fuel for

Vehicles.

• Avoid using and use electric

stoves (bio gas).

• Water pollution affects the entire

biosphere – plants and organisms

living in these bodies of water. In

almost all cases the effect is

damaging not only to

individual speciess and population,

but also to the natural biological

communities.

How to Avoid Water

Pollution

• Rivers should not be used for washing

clothes or bathing animals in

• Harvesting of Rainwaterto meet water

requirements.

• Dams & embankments must be created.

• The rivers must not be contaminated.

• In rivers the dead bodies shouldn’t

thrown

Conclusion

• Everything on our planet

is interconnected, and while the nature

supplies us with valuable

environmental services without which

we cannot exist, we all depend on each

other’s actions and the way we treat

natural resources.
