September 17-18, 2019

Beijing International Hotel, Beijing, China

In 2019 we face new energy security challenges and risks. Will crude oil still flow

from Iran into the global market? What are the implications if not? What does the future

hold for China and other emerging market economies? What are the prospects of new

and emerging fuels and energy technologies? We need to pay attention to all these issues

besides the traditional concerns on global energy security.

Since its inauguration in 2013, Belt and Road Initiative has made significant progress.

In the keynote speech in the opening ceremony of the 2nd Belt and Road Forum in Beijing

on April 26 2019, President Xi said:” The principle of extensive consultation, joint

contribution and shared benefits should be upheld, and open, green and clean

approaches should be adhered to……The goals of high-standard, livelihood-improving

and sustainable development should be achieved……China will work with other parties to

promote a coalition of sustainable cities and an international coalition for green

development under the Belt and Road Initiative.”

Green solutions are the key to the grand ideas of green Belt and Road, and will be

helpful to energy security and sustainable development in BRI countries, contributing new

growth points to the world economy.

With an eye to these important issues, we are pleased to announce that the 8th Global

Forum on Energy Security will be held on September 17-18 at Beijing International Hotel,

hosted by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), under the auspices of the

International Energy Forum (IEF), International Energy Charter (IEC), United States

Energy Security Council (USESC) and the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security

(IAGS). The organizing committee acknowledges the support of the International

Advanced Technology Transfer Center at China International Association for Promotion of

Science and Technology (CIAPST-IATTC), and CAS Data Business Park / Tiensing

Renaissance City.

Global Forum on Energy Security (GFES) is a world-wide platform of think tanks to

promote communication of ideas for secure energy supply and sustainable future,

co-founded by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the United States Energy

Security Council (USESC) and the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS) in

2012.

This annual by-invitation-only conference brings together international energy

security experts from related countries to discuss current energy security challenges.
