The Global Health Academy’s key objectives are to: 1 Offer world leading interdisciplinary

postgraduate degrees to help combat global health challenges;

2 Engage in global collaborative research to make Life better; and

3 Participate and lead in the creation of global health networks and partnerships.

The Global Health Academy will:• Offer a wide range of flexible, interdisciplinary

postgraduate training in global health using a combination of conventional and online distance learning and the University’s world-class facilities and resources.

• Support partnerships and global networks for research for health across high-, middle- and low-income countries.

• Work with key partners to promote institutional capacity building and advocate for community engagement in global health.

Global research engagementThe Academy will contribute towards research and evidence based interventions against the major health problems affecting low- and middle-income societies across the globe. Priorities that the Academy has identified will include the dual burden of disease, social inequalities in health and the translation of leading scientific advances into effective interventions.

Creating global communities of practice The Academy will enable global networking and enhance the culture of professional development across disciplines providing fellowship, peer oversight, promotion of professionalism, dialogue and networking.

Providing opportunities for partnerships and networking The Academy will act as a portal for both UK wide and global research groups and collaborations wishing to create networks within Health and strengthen their approach to donors and funding agencies – helping to establish research hubs with international partners. A key aim of the Academy is to facilitate long-term institutional capacity strengthening of our partner universities in the global South to undertake research, education, administration and knowledge management.

The University of Edinburgh’s Global Health Academy will provide a framework for collaborative, interdisciplinary research, postgraduate training, educational activities and resources that will contribute to strengthening the health resource base, globally.

• Explore and create pathways to translate scientific advances and achievements into policy and practice to address global health issues.

• Develop innovative cross cutting research opportunities between the University and partner institutions in high-, middle- and low-income countries.

• Work with key partners to promote and maintain collaborative postgraduate teaching and research.

• Build a supportive global community of practice for all involved – operating an inclusive, no-barriers policy, embracing all institutions and individuals who desire to contribute to solving global health issues.

Providing world-class educational opportunitiesThe Academy brings together a wide portfolio of postgraduate masters degrees from across theUniversity, crossing all boundaries in disciplines in global health. From science and social sciences to policy and practice to human and animal health. We recognise the importance of choice and will offer our degrees in a variety of formats: on campus, online, full-time and part-time.

MembershipThe Global Health Academy at the University of Edinburgh is open to all who are working towards finding solutions to our global health challenges. Inclusivity and equity of opportunity is at the heart of the Academy.
