Summary
New sulfide inventory has been used in GEOS-Chem to study the long-term variations of SO2 and sulfate
Emission trend (New vs. Old)
Total-N=Total-O; Corrected (Asia, NA); Detailed (Europe)
Simulated 10-year variations of SO2 concentrations are compared with WDCGG stations measurements, and it indicates that the model results are reasonable.
SO2 emission reduction is very significant in Europe since 1990 and we find that sulfate and total AOD over Europe has a clear downward trend since 1990. This may contribute to the observed brightening for stations in Europe.
Future
Long-term (1986-2005) SO2, sulfate AOD
Trend, comparisons with available
measurements.
Coupled with nucleation and growth
module to study the long-term change in
particle formation and CCN abundance.
