What is Global Warming? The temperate in the atmosphere

increases. It happens when greenhouse gasses

trap heat and light from the sun.

Page 3: Global Warming

How does it affect the planet?

Icebergs melt

Water level

increasesSubmersion of land

Page 4: Global Warming

What are the Causes? Carbon dioxide:

- Fossil Fuel- Deforestation- Carbon Sink

Methane:- Cattle and Rice Paddies- The Artic Tundra

Nitrogen Oxides: - Farming

Other Gasses

Page 5: Global Warming

Carbon Dioxide Carbon Dioxide is one of the main causes Fossil fuels:

- burning- cars- airplanes- coal plants

Deforestation:- All living plants store carbon-Carbon dioxide released every time a plant dies

Page 6: Global Warming

Carbon Dioxide Carbon Sink:

- Stores carbon- Artic tundra- sinks fail, carbon released into atmosphere

Oceans:- Giant carbon sinks- stores 50 times more carbon than the atmosphere

Page 7: Global Warming

Methane 100 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Created when:

- Bacteria breaks down natural matter- Matter trapped under water

- rice paddies- Intestines of herbivorous animals

- cows- sheep- goats

- Land fills

Page 8: Global Warming

Methane Clathrates

- frozen pieces of ice and methane at bottom of ocean

As water heats ice melts releasing methane

Page 9: Global Warming

Nitrogen Oxide Traps heat 300 times more the carbon

dioxide. Get released every time a plant is

fertilized

Page 10: Global Warming

Other gasses Chlorofluorocarbons and

hydrochlorofluorocarbons Used in refrigeration

Page 11: Global Warming

How do you prevent Global Warming? Reuse, reduce, recycle Use less heating and air-conditioning Buy energy efficient products Plant a tree Turn off lights when not in use
