Definition
Global Warming is an increase in temperature of Earth’s surface.
Scientists worry that Human societies and natural ecosystems might not adapt to the rapid climatic changes.
Causes
A lot of Human activities are responsible.
• release of Carbon dioxide in the air
• Burning of gases used in automobiles• Clearing of lands – trees are cut –
increase of CO2
• Burning of fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas)
• Green house effect
The Green House Effect
The greenhouse effect is unquestionably real and helps to regulate the temperature of our planet. It is essential for life on Earth and is one of Earth's natural processes. It is the result of heat absorption by certain gases in the atmosphere (called greenhouse gases because they effectively 'trap' heat in the lower atmosphere) and re-radiation downward of some of that heat. Water vapor is the most abundant greenhouse gas, followed by carbon dioxide
The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Without these gases, heat would escape back into space and Earth’s average temperature would be about 60ºF colder. Because of how they warm our world, these gases are referred to as greenhouse gases
The greenhouse effect is important. Without the greenhouse effect, the Earth would not be warm enough for humans to live. But if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make the Earth warmer than usual. Even a little extra warming may cause problems for humans, plants, and animals.
The Effects ……..
• damage plants and animal life (also the life forms in the sea)
• Life forms will be forced to adopt a new habitat
• Weather patterns change, causes floods and draughts , storms
• Melts polar ice to rise sea level• Spread of diseases like malaria and dengue
• Temperature keeps rising
Limiting Global Warming
Emit less CO2
Use alternative energy sources eg : use geothermal power plants instead of electricity
Stop deforestation
Recycle substances
Ways to reduce waste..
• While shopping use clot bags, reuse shopping bags
• Refill your stuffs – buy a big bottle instead of small bottles
• Buy recycled goods• Pack your lunch in reusable lunch
boxes• Chose durable products over
disposable ones
• Use reusable bottles
• If something is broken – mend it – don’t throw
• Collect glass, paper, cans to recycle them
• Left over food, natural articles can be made into compost and manure
• Reuse paper
