• Pursuit of “free market” policies between nations

• Means of attracting new investments from other nations

• Reduction of trade barriers

Political

• Government regulations regarding imports and exports

• Migration rules and policies• Spread of technology (Arab Spring)• Military presence• Climate Change

Cultural

• Circulation of Ideas from other parts of the world

• Mixture of languages that could influence local language

• Influence on popular culture

Positive Aspects of Globalization

• Money poured into developing countries raises their standard of living

• Encourages creativity and innovation while keeping prices lower

• Improved interaction and coordination between governments

• Greater access to foreign cultures…more choices (music, food, clothing, etc.)

Negative Aspects of Globalization

• Outsourcing hurts local community• Individuality begin to fade• Greater chance of disease being global• Little international regulation• Exploitation of poor countries by the rich

Class Assignment

• Working in groups of 4-5 do the following:1. Brainstorm 3 areas in your life that have been

positively effected by globalization (be specific)2. Brainstorm 3 areas in your life that have been

negatively effected by globalization (again be specific)

3. Where does your group stand on the issue of globalization, is it a good or bad thing? MUST TAKE ONE SIDE and be ready to defend it. (Answer the questions as a group)

187 countries, working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world.
