• Global trade in food items have increased due to the fact that shipping costs have gone down in the past few years.

• People tend to expect availability of seasonal products year-round.

• Actions taken to eliminate diseases: for example: China vowed to improve more exacting standards on its food producers and would strengthen FDA’s monitoring program.

• Globalization of food trade has lead to new employment opportunities, increased income, direct cost savings, increased choice of products and reduced prices. Also there is an increase in product quality and higher food standards.

• Well-managed, a globalized livestock sector can benefit the national economy by providing employment, promoting technology transfer, increasing food safety and raising the diversity of food products available.

• The World Health Organization (WHO) works with many countries to reduce illnesses caused by food.

• Can increase national income and create employment as well as nutrition.

• Developed countries have strict regulations and laws that deal with the safety of foods. They can pass this information and standards to less developed countries.

• Food safety regulations are established through surveillance systems like FoodNet and PulseNet.

• The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) work in a network under Health and Human Services to accurately account for the trends of foodborne illnesses.

• Coordination and cooperation among various governmental departments that take part in creating and enforcing legislation can lead to higher success in food safety around the world.
