NYU Classroom Technology Tiers

•Tier I – Basic Technology Classroom – Classroom provides audio/video presentation capability from local

(computer hard drive, CD/DVD/Flash drive, audio device, etc.) and remote sources (internet). A computer

with internet access is provided for the instructor with standard and selected specialized software for

instructional purposes; Inputs for an additional computer and additional media devices are provided. Wireless

access is available for students. If classroom is large, speech reinforcement is provided.

•Tier II – Smart Classroom – In addition to Tier I capabilities, classroom provides “touch screen” or wall

mounted media control system (i.e., Crestron System) for controlling media input/output, projection screen,

etc. (e.g., Crestron System) from one location. Tier II classrooms may also have audio/video capture

technology.

•Tier III – Video Conferencing Classroom – In addition to Tier I and II capabilities, Tier III classrooms have

installed video conferencing equipment to provide synchronous (live) audio/video communication with remote

site(s). This includes cameras, microphones and additional communications and network equipment.
