WELL DONE MY CHILD…
Confession is im-portant. It helps us as we battle to do better. It makes us aware of our humanity,
our weakness. It is a good thing.
Hearing confessions is one of the great privileges of being a Priest. To be that instrument that helps create healing and mend the soul.
At the same time perhaps we should consider what do we do that would be pleasing to God. In no way am I suggesting you skip con-fession (in fact, let me remind many of you to come to confession).
I wonder if someday I will hear a voice say “Ray, you were a good
steward of the land”. I would hope to hear “you were honorable and faithful to your vocation”.
Let me challenge you. Seriously consider your day to day life and then tell us, what words do you think would follow “Well done my child…”?
Notice the bulletin cover has been updated to include the phrase “The Mass is to be lived, go forth to love and serve the Lord”. Every week-end we are reminded living our faith does not stop at the edge of the parking lot. It is 24/7.
On the top of page 5 you will find a request from Sister Carolyn. We are in need of volunteers to take Communion to individuals on Friday mornings. Please step up to the request if possible.
God bless, Father Ray

Our Stephen Ministers are trained caregivers, ready to listen, care for and encour-age you, pray with and for you, and provide one-to-one Christian care to help you through whatever it is that you are facing.
It’s free. It’s confidential. It will make a difference

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Peter saw Jesus walking on the water and began to walk toward him. He became frightened at how strong the wind was and began to sink. He took his focus off of Jesus and allowed his fears to get the best of him. Fear often gets the best of us and cripples us. We sink. Many of our actions and thoughts are motivated by fear. Think of how many opportunities you have missed because of fear. Jesus tells us to trust and to meet each day with faith and confidence. God is with us.

who has nothing. Neither is it small to God, if we have given what we could.”
-St. Gregory Nazianzen
RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
I remember when all three of my children were learning to swim. In the beginning, it seemed like no matter how much assurance I gave them, they were certain they would drown. Even after watching me float in the water, they were pretty sure their bodies were creat-ed to sink. In time, they grew more comfortable in the water. Eventual-ly, they could even swim the length of the pool. But this did not hap-pen overnight. They had to grow in their faith that swimming was pos-sible, not just for others, but for them as well. Too many of us who are Christians believe that holiness is for some-one else. We believe that the sto-ries of the saints are about super humans who had something in greater supply than us. When our
faith is weak, we assume that we can never have the faith of these holy men and women. On the contrary, faith and holiness are not things only possible for a few. But we must practice our faith to grow in our faith. We must strive for holiness if we are to become holy. Like a child fears the water before learning to swim, we often fear the path that leads to greater faith or holiness. We are not convinced that God can work in our lives to create a saint. Yet except for Mary, the Immaculate Conception, every saint was a sinner. God called eve-ry saint to exit the boat and walk toward Jesus on the water. In time, with practice and trust in God, they found they did not sink either. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

FOR REFLECTION
CYCLE A AUGUST 13, 2017 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
"Peter got out of the boat and be-gan to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was, he became fright-ened." How can we describe Peter? At once faithful and fearful, his jum-bled responses remind us that he was no spiritual superman, well in-tentioned though he may have been. Peter wanted to believe, and in fact showed a great deal of confi-dence in Christ, but the temptation to doubt was strong enough to knock him off his feet, literally.
"O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" Jesus reprimanded Peter. The words seem harsh. After all, Pe-ter was the only one who had enough faith to even try something as ludicrous as stepping out of the boat onto the water in the first place. But perhaps Jesus wanted to emphasize that our faith needs to be strong enough to weather the storm, so to speak.
If we only believe in Jesus when the wind is calm and the waves are gone, is that truly having faith in him? Is that actually trusting in his supreme power over the forces of the universe? Peter began to sink as soon as a challenge appeared. Jesus
called him, and he calls us, to stay on our feet even when the winds begin to blow.
So, what are the winds that threat-en our faith? What kinds of gusts are blowing today? Whatever it might be--health problems, financial concerns, relational struggles--none of it is too much for Jesus to handle. But we must step out in faith and trust him! And we need to keep our eyes on him as we do so, instead of getting distracted by the force of the challenges we face. Jesus is bigger than any problem. We have nothing to fear as long as we are walking towards him.

HOLY LAND TRIP FEBRUARY 13-22, 2018
Walking the very ground where Jesus walked is a deeply enriching opportunity for us today. The Scriptures come alive. We do not read the stories and parables in the same way after visiting the Holy Land. We do now have the opportunity of accepting several more on this memorable trip.
Bethlehem, Nazareth, the place of the Transfiguration, Jerusalem, the place where our Lord died, where he was buried, where he spoke the parables, where he shared the boat with his disciples. We'll see and experience them all.

REDISCOVERING THE FAITH
Have you been away from the Church? Are you thinking about com-
ing back? Do you know someone who wants to come home to the
Catholic Church, but is struggling with their faith? Maybe you or
someone you know has experienced one of these thoughts:
I grew up Catholic, but for some reason I just sort of stopped
going to Church…
I just moved to a new city, I tried going to a couple different
parishes, but I never really felt welcomed...
After my marriage ended, I felt uncomfortable around my fami-
ly, friends and parish…
I just don't understand why the Church teaches what it does!
Some teachings seem so outdated…
I tried to contact my parish about getting married but no one
got back to me…
