We always want the building to look fresh and inviting, and this summer is no exception, except that the volume of work is unprecedented. The tasks fall into three categories: Security: A few months ago, we had two security audits done, one by a private security company and one by the Roswell Police Department, who did a follow-up meeting on security for all the private schools in Roswell. Excellent, I might add. Based on their recommendations, we are adding more doors to our electronic locking system and additional stations that can lock down the entire building instantly in case of an emergency. Speaking of that room, the wall that separates it from the TV Production Studio will be removed to create a large room where all the study hall classes will meet. Having such a room right next to the Media Center will be a plus for students who need to do research during study hall time. May the Blessed Trinity be praised:

Now and forever!

Dear Friends of Blessed Trinity:

Every summer we do a lot of work in the building, usually in the form of painting, floor stripping and polishing, carpet replacement, and so forth. We always want the building to look fresh and inviting, and this summer is no exception, except that the volume of work is unprecedented. The tasks fall into three categories:

Security: A few months ago, we had two security audits done, one by a private security company and one by the Roswell Police Department, who did a follow-up meeting on security for all the private schools in Roswell. Excellent, I might add. Based on their recommendations, we are adding more doors to our electronic locking system and additional stations that can lock down the entire building instantly in case of an emergency. A wall with secured doors will replace the open entry into the cafeteria and a buzz-in system will be added from the reception area into the main hallway. On the recommendation of the security professionals, other improvements we are making will not be made public. All this will make Blessed Trinity the most secure high school I know of, without sacrificing the inviting look all schools want to maintain.

Interior Construction: in the main office area, the cubicle arrangement will be removed and replaced with two brick and mortar offices. We don’t need additional office space at this time, so these offices will be used for storage for the time being. Also in the main office, the area in the back by the PA system will be walled in and the employee mailboxes moved there from the room behind the Media Center. Speaking of that room, the wall that separates it from the TV Production Studio will be removed to create a large room where all the study hall classes will meet. Having such a room right next to the Media Center will be a plus for students who need to do research during study hall time.

The attendance office will move to the main office area, making it easier for parents when a student needs to be checked out. The nurse’s station in the clinic will move to the former attendance office. Part of the Media Center will give way to a new classroom to be used for health classes, and the former health room will become an athletic storage room. The stacks in the Media Center will be configured so that no print material will be sacrificed, and the table seating will remain in place. The Robotics Team will get a large new construction area near the Math/Science Office in what was a storeroom. Video production will move into our largest computer lab.

Beautification: The carpet replacement cycle will conclude with the carpet in the theater replaced and the black painted floor in the seating areas repainted. House lights will be replaced with a different type of lighting. The painting cycle around the building will continue with all the classrooms on the main hall and science hallway getting a fresh coat.

The biggest beautification project will be in the front entrance area. The concrete will be replaced and reshaped, additional brick seating added, and landscaping redone. While this work is underway, the front entrance will be inaccessible, so the main entrance will be moved to the athletic hallway entrance off the faculty parking lot. Signs will be posted to direct folks back there.

Lots to do, but the school will benefit greatly from these improvements. We are grateful to Superintendent Dr. Diane Starkovich and Archdiocese CFO Brad Wilson for their support of these projects. We’re not a new school any more, but we always want the building to look like we just moved in.

News from the Spirit ZoneWe have enjoyed serving our BT community - students, parents, grandparents and visitors and have worked hard to maintain a “Comfort & Convenient ZONE” providing uniform items, school supplies, spirit wear and a friendly face. Our expanded store hours (now open daily from 7:30am-3:30pm) and our first annual Titan Tidings Christmas Gift Show were a huge success! Looking forward, we will continue to be your source for letter jackets, pre-ordered uniform items and pre-ordered sport specific apparel. Next year, in addition to P.E. uniforms, fleeces and ties, we will also carry uniform sweaters.

Please feel free to email any suggestions you may have and if you haven’t already...please follow Blessed Trinity’s Titan Spirit ZONE on Facebook and Twitter! ____________________________

Habitat for Humanity Needs Your Help!!Habitat has reached its goal of raising $10,000 for the matching State Farm Grant! With your help, we have now raised $20,000 and will be able to make a difference in the world by helping to build a house for someone who doesn’t have one.

We still have a variety of fundraisers being planned. “Habitat Heroes” offers the BT community the chance to vote for a favorite teacher or administrator. The candidate who raises the most money for Habitat becomes the “Habitat Hero” for a day. The teachers competing this year are Mr. Johnson, Mr. Findlay, Mr. Martin, and Mr. Sabin. The teacher who wins will come to school fully equipped with a Habitat shirt, a cape, a mask, a tool belt, and a hard hat.

home & School Home and School Gives Thanks!!Every good thing must come to an end and this school year is no exception! Your Home and School Board, as well as the many sub-committees, have worked tirelessly in so many facets that they are almost too numerable to mention. We have prayed together, worked together, celebrated together and shared together. We have helped with Homecoming, had teacher luncheons, prayed for our children, raised money for missions, given blood, planned retreats, and so much more. The Home and School Association continues to work behind the scenes even through the summer months! It has truly been a blessing to serve as this year’s president and because of the fabulous people on this year’s board, I have to admit, it was one of smoothest volunteer jobs I have ever had! This year has been a huge success and I have to give credit to the following people..... Lauren Gonzalez (vice president), Kelly McCoy (secretary), Dawn Knuckles (treasurer), Ellen McCormick and Trish Camperlengo (community activities), Bryce McGowan and Kim Michael (student activities) and Laurie Marchuk (spiritual life). It has been my pleasure working with these wonderful women and because of all our time together, I am so grateful to call them my friends. The beauty in serving our school has produced for me a wonderful gift of community and as I step down, I leave you in the service and leadership of Lauren Gonzalez. Please consider serving as well by volunteering for a committee for next year as the salmon-colored volunteer forms will be in the summer mailing. Many blessings on our seniors and their families as they venture into a new chapter in their lives! Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you this year. Blessings,Denise JonesHAS President____________________________

Campus Ministry River Run Supports Msgr. Simon’s Work in GhanaThank you Blessed Trinity for being a good friend to Msgr. Simon! Your Miracle Minute donations are at work in rural Ghana. Many folks from BT have helped St. Joseph’s Catholic High School by sending used text books, BT t-shirts and other practical items to the school build by his Atlanta friends, Clap for Jesus, Inc. And, kudos to the BT dad who donates a plethora of tooth brushes to the medical mission every year! Two years ago Msgr. Simon’s bishop, Bishop Joseph Essien, visited Blessed Trinity and celebrated Mass in the gym. Bishop Essien marveled at your beautiful campus with such awe it was humbling. As we visit one another in Ghana and the US, friendship becomes partnership and Msgr. Simon’s development work keeps growing.

The Ghana Friendship Project and All Saints Catholic Church invite you to the 5th Annual River Run for Hope on Saturday, June 8, 2013. The race begins and ends at St. Andrew on the River. Race attendance will exceed 1000 this year. Proceeds from the race provide medical supplies, educational material, clothing and other basic need items which are shipped to Ghana to coincide with Helping Hands Medical Mission’s annual mission to Ghana. BT’s donation of a used wheelchair from the school clinic is in this year’s shipment. Sign up for the race online or use the race flyer. Thank you!____________________________

May 9 - Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipstead

Seating Arrangements - (320 pgs) Maggie Shipstead’s irresistible social

satire, set on an exclusive New England island over a wedding

weekend in June, provides a deliciously biting glimpse into the

lives of the well-bred and ill-behaved.

Winn Van Meter is heading for his family’s retreat on the pristine New

England island of Waskeke. Normally a haven of calm, for the next three

days this sanctuary will be overrun by tipsy revelers as Winn prepares for the marriage of his daughter Daphne to

the affable young scion Greyson Duff. Winn’s wife, Biddy, has planned the

wedding with military precision, but arrangements are sideswept by a storm of salacious misbehavior and

intractable lust.

Mission Trip to NicaraguaBT’s second mission trip to Nicaragua with Amigos for Christ did not disappoint. We returned to this third world country with 21 students and three chaperones - BT dad, Mike Isbill, BT uncle and godfather, Dennis Piccinilli, and Patti McCarthy, BT’s coordinator of Campus Ministry.

We arrived late on Holy Saturday night and after a short night’s sleep, we celebrated Easter Sunday at the local parish Mass in Chinandega, a short walk from our compound. After a reflection on loving God and neighbor—in preparation for what we would experience during the week—we prepared for the trip and challenge of climbing the volcano and finishing the 1.5 liter bottle of water we were told was necessary, so no one would get dehydrated. Everyone collapsed when they reached the summit and reveled in the beauty of God’s loving hand in this spectacular view before blazing a trail racing down the volcano.

Our first two days of work assignments included digging trenches (with pick axes and shovels) in preparation for the installation of piping for a water system so the Nicaraguans could have clean running water. Mid- week we visited the town of Chinandega to visit the local orphanage for disabled and special needs children and adults…most unable to communicate. Students jumped in and brought a spark of love and caring to all. We stopped for lunch at a favorite student spot—The Sports Burger. We helped spike the economy! After a trip to a water park in the afternoon and fun Jeopardy sessions that night, we were ready to continue with the work that was needed—moving on to building septic tanks for flushing toilets. Most homes have latrines which become infested with parasites that create ugly diseases.

The rocky and rugged terrain created a toad block for the school bus that transported us, so we walked two miles to reach the homes where we worked. Wherever we worked, the Nicaraguans partnered with us to accomplish their goal to have clean water and a flushing toilet. We fell in love with their tenacity, work ethic, winning smiles and their amazingly strong and obvious faith and trust in God. Before we started our last day of working, one of the Nicaraguans told us: “I can never repay you, but God will repay you.”

May all the missionaries continue to treasure the experience and grace of being God’s hands and feet on this very special mission trip.

Annual Fund UpdateAt Blessed Trinity, your tuition dollars cover approximately 80% of the annual operating expenses for the school. Annual Fund contributions serve as a tax deductible way to bridge that gap. The goal at Blessed Trinity has always been for every member of the BT community to contribute to the Annual Fund in an amount that is meaningful and significant to them. To date, roughly 45% of all BT families have made a contribution to this year’s Annual Fund. During difficult economic times, these gifts are

As we approach the end of the school year, we ask all those who have not participated to consider a gift to this year’s campaign. Capital Campaign - “We Are Turning Dirt This Spring”Thanks to the generosity of the BT community, we have collected enough funds in the campaign to begin construction of the first two fields (lacrosse and baseball) at the completion of the school year. Because we are required to have all funds necessary to complete the project, we are still short of what we need to also do the stadium field, but we have until the end of May to collect another $470,000 so it can be included as well. If not, our pricing on the field has been extended to the end of the year and we hope to begin that project later in the fall. The turfing of the fields was our first priority in the campaign because of the cost savings they offer in terms of maintenance and we want to begin recouping those savings as soon as possible.

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed to the campaign… you’ll begin seeing your dollars at work in late May. If you have not yet contributed we still need your support, so please consider a gift to the campaign. There is no better way to leave a lasting legacy here at BT. If you have made a pledge and could accelerate your payment, please consider doing so to help us complete the final field as soon as possible.____________________________

Colleen Dever ‘09 Gets Cancer Resolution PassedAfter working for the better part of a year on a childhood cancer resolution, Colleen Dever ’09, a senior nursing student at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), saw her hard work realized when her resolution was passed by the National Student Nurses Association’s (NSNA) 2013 House of Delegates, during the national convention in April.

Colleen, who is the vice president of UAB’s Student Nurses Association, collaborated with a nursing student from University of Iowa who had submitted a similar resolution and in April the “Increase Awareness of Long-Term Complications of Adult and Childhood Cancer Survivors” resolution was passed!

“It was really encouraging to know I had the support of the NSNA and its House of Delegates. Childhood cancer is a subject that is very important to me and it feels great to have accomplished this,” said Colleen. Resolutions are used to transform nursing issues to policies through political action and are submitted to impact the future of nursing’s unique opportunity to advocate for nursing students, the profession, community, and nation.

Colleen was also presented with the Student Excellence in Emerging Leaders Award during UAB’s annual honors awards ceremony._____________________________

John Streppa ‘04 Climbs Mt. Kilimanjaro John Streppa ’04, his father, and ten other close friends set out to summit the highest freestanding peak in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro, this past February. In John’s words, “ What started out as a leisurely stroll through the rain forest turned into one of the most mentally and physically demanding challenges I’ve faced in my short life.” The final push to the base camp and eventually the summit started on day four at 8am with an 8-hour hike to base camp. Once at base camp the group ate dinner around 6pm, received their final briefing before the summit, and then caught a few hours of sleep.

At 10:30pm they awoke and started the final push to Uhuru peak. John and his group proceeded to hike eight hours in complete darkness with only their headlamps, the chants of the guides, and the millions of stars guiding them along. After what seemed like an eternity the group made it to Uhuru peak and they were able to watch the sun rise over the plains of Africa as their bodies adjusted to being 19,400 feet above sea level. _____________________________
