Scripture Focus

As we approach the end of the Church year, the liturgy directs our thoughts to the end of time itself. For Jews and Christians this implies victory over all forces of evil, even death itself. A common theme in the writings about this end time is that it will be a time of crisis, a time of decision. Luke’s main theme is that it will do no good to try to predict the end time. For followers of Jesus, the important thing is to believe that God will be with them no matter what happens: “You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”

Life Focus

Describe a time in your life when you had to persevere in order to stand up for what you believed to be right. With wars, famine, suffering, etc., how do you find God’s love and trust in your life? Speak of a time in your life when a crisis occurred and you were fearful. How did you get the courage to bounce back? -Diocese of Albany St. Patrick Parish, Albany, New York

A Big Thank You to St. Patrick’s Bereavement Ministry for all the work they did in making the

celebration of the Mass of Remembrance so special. This annual Mass was held on All Souls Day at 7 pm. We mailed out 25 letters of invitation to the families of the deceased who had died between mid October 2015 and mid October 2016. Twenty families came out to pay their respects. All were invited downstairs for some light refreshments. This celebration could not have been possible without the dedication of the members committed to this service. ~ Vilija Tassone – Co-ordinator of Bereavement

Advent Retreat at Villa Loyola, 4951 Long Lake Rd themed “A Stitch in time: The fabrics that

quilt your life” from Fri. Dec. 2nd

at 7 pm to Sun. Dec. 4th at 1 pm, led by Fr. Philip Chircop, S.J.. Quite often,

numbed by lack of presence, focus and attention, we live a deeply fragmented and dismembered life. This way of

life divides us within ourselves, thinking one things, feeling another, and doing a third. We will thus explore a few basic

“stitches” that can sew our lives together again into one “seamless garment”. Cost is $230 live-in or $150 commute. Call 705-

522-3502 ext. 0 or email [email protected] for more info.

Special Guest Coming! The season of Advent begins on Sunday, November 27th. We welcome back

our occasional friend the Rev. Minister Maurice Dorr of Redford, Michigan. He will share in giving the Homily at both Masses. A FREE WILL offering to assist his expenses and ministry will be received.

At the Heart of the Action with Development and

Peace for ecological justice At the COP21, Canada committed to

investing $2.65 billion by 2020 to support countries of the Global South that are severely affected by climate change. While there are many ways to respond to climate change, we believe that agriculture must be at the heart of proposed solutions. Let’s support an agricultural model that enables these stewards of the earth to live in dignity and feed their communities in a way that respects our common home, the Earth. Sign the Development and Peace Action Card today! Ask the Prime Minister to take into account the vital role of small family farmers in feeding and cooling the planet and to ensure that their voices are heard: devp.org/act.

Statement from the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie re:

Father William Hodgson Marshall, recently settled, Civil Action

Date November 7, 2016 The Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie is party to a settlement agreement in a civil case regarding Father Marshall (deceased), a Basilian priest and teacher at Saint Charles College. Any improper conduct by a priest is an extremely serious matter. The Diocese has cooperated fully with all local authorities. It would be inappropriate for diocesan officials to comment on the specifics of this case as the decision is subject to a confidentiality agreement.

However, we must be clear in stating that any form of misconduct by personnel of the Catholic Church is unacceptable. The Diocese has developed extensive procedures to foster a safe environment for all members of our faith community. These policies can be found by visiting the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie website: www.dioceseofsaultstemarie.com. Please see the tab under the heading, “Safe Environment”. We encourage people to learn more about how we are working proactively to foster a culture of trust for our family of faith.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by these events.
