Purpose

The purpose of this study is to show the intention of the God of Israel as He demonstrates that He alone is God over all the earth. He will not share His glory with any other so-called god.

The LORD will be terrible [awesome] unto them: for he will famish [reduce to nothing] all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles [shores] of the heathen.

Zephaniah 2:11

What About Allah?

“Allahu akbar”, shouted by Islamists before they commit a terrorist act, is a declaration that “Allah is greatest”.

God will not allow that claim to stand.

Many people claim that Allah and God are the same god, a claim that originates with those of the Islamic faith.

God and Allah cannot be considered to be the same:

Consider the characters of these two and what they demand from us.

God revealed Himself to Adam, Noah and Abram some 5000 years ago.

Muhammad amalgamated some 360 tribal gods of the Arabs into his concept of Allah about 1600 years ago.

Has anybody seen Allah or talked with him?

Orientation

Most teaching regarding our future is church-centric.This is natural because the teaching is done by Christian teachers, members of the church.

While Christian, this study is Israel-centric, because our God has seen fit to reveal Himself through the Jewish people.

The Christian Church is a parenthesis – a side thought – in God's total program.

Page 7: Gods Right To Rule

7

Revelation

It does not do for teachers to appear to be ignorant. That's why Bible teachers “have to” come up with some explanation for everything.

Some teachers have assigned meanings from their imaginations to words and phrases that they don't understand.

Others have assigned some events to the past. Still others have just “dumped” as insignificant details

prophesies they have not understood to be major events, such as the Great Tribulation.

The timings of some events, in their relationship with other events, cannot be stated with certainty because it is not revealed in Scripture. Keep in mind that Scripture is not given to satisfy our curiosity, but to point us to Jesus Christ and to inspire us to worship Him in the way that we speak and the way that we live.

Page 8: Gods Right To Rule

8

Interpretation

We will interpret the Scriptures “literally”. What this means is that we will not try to make the Scriptures mean something that is not written.

We will endeavor to mold our conclusions to the Scriptures, not the other way around.

Page 9: Gods Right To Rule

9

Authority

Authority is established by those who see themselves as having the right to make rules and who have the ability to enforce their rules.

As an example, the speed limit is not what is posted.

It is what is enforced.

Page 10: Gods Right To Rule

10

King

To be a functional king, one must be recognized as king by those who can enforce his right to rule.

Any challenge to a king's rule must be dealt with or he is no longer king.

Page 11: Gods Right To Rule

11

God

To be a god, one must have –and be able to demonstrate –an absolute right to rule.

As Creator of all, God has this right to rule.

One of His creatures, Lucifer, has challenged this right to rule.

We often don't understand the spiritual dimension of our existence – Lucifer vs. God, but this is the core of all conflicts we see on earth.

Page 12: Gods Right To Rule

12

Lucifer

The prophet Ezekiel tells us:

Lucifer, as a created being, was designed to worship his Creator.

Lucifer was the most important angel.

In refusing to be subject to God, he became Satan.

Page 13: Gods Right To Rule

13

Who Is Lucifer?

Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Ezekiel 28:14-15

Page 14: Gods Right To Rule

14

Lucifer's Iniquity

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart,

I will ascend into heaven,

Isaiah 14:12-14

What do Lucifer's words mean? Lucifer says: “My will be done.” “I will sit in the cathedra, the seat of authority.”

Page 15: Gods Right To Rule

15

Lucifer's Iniquity

I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:

Isaiah 14:12-14

What do Lucifer's words mean? The “stars of God” are the angels of God.

Lucifer means: “I will have control over others.”

Page 16: Gods Right To Rule

16

Lucifer's Iniquity

I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:

I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Isaiah 14:12-14

What do Lucifer's words mean? “I will control the affairs of the universe.” “I will claim the right to rule.”

Page 17: Gods Right To Rule

17

Lucifer's Iniquity

I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:

I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;

Isaiah 14:12-14

What do Lucifer's words mean? The presence of God has been in a cloud. Lucifer wants to go above the tops of the clouds,

above God's presence.

Page 18: Gods Right To Rule

18

Lucifer's Iniquity

I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:

I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation,in the sides of the north:

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;

I will be like the Most High.

Isaiah 14:12-14

What do Lucifer's words mean? I want complete independence, answering to no one. I will do what I want to do, when I want to do it.

Page 19: Gods Right To Rule

19

Satan's Will For Man

Satan wants man to join him in denying God's right to rule.

Satan doesn't care whether we worship him or not.

He doesn't even care if we believe that he exists.

If we can somehow get away with ruling ourselves, then Satan is justified in ruling himself and those over whom he can gain power.

He has deceived himself into thinking that he can win this battle, so he has no problem with trying to get us to think that we can be the captains of our own ships, the masters of our own destinies.

Page 20: Gods Right To Rule

20

Man

Man is a being created by God.

Man, a created being, was given a spirit so that he might worship his Creator.

The primary purpose of our being is to worship Him.

Page 21: Gods Right To Rule

21

The Essence of Sin is The Spirit of Independence from God

Satan told Eve, “You can be religious without God.”

Satan tempted Jesus to act independently of God.

Page 22: Gods Right To Rule

22

Practicing Independence

It is common for religious but sinful man to teach that God's stated will is not important, but rules that we have made up are important.

These rules, often codified as acts of worship, are independent of God.

Such rules assert our supposed right to rule our own lives and in the lives of fellow church members.

Page 23: Gods Right To Rule

23

God's Requirement

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Romans 10:9

To be saved from the penalty of our sins, we must acknowledge

that Jesus is our Lord, our Master; that He is the ruler of our life and that we worship Him.

Any thing or person that we obey is the real ruler of our life.

Page 24: Gods Right To Rule

24

God's Plan For Man

God could have immediately destroyed Lucifer and his followers (one third of the Heavenly Host), but He chose to use Lucifer's rebellion to establish His right to rule through a voluntary following – man.

Man would respond to God's revelation of Himself by worshiping and obeying Him, thus demonstrating God's right to rule His creation.

The whole message of the Bible is how God is establishing His right to rule.

The Bible is about God; not about man.

Part of the message is history; part of it is (still) prophecy.Part of the message is in the past; part is in the future.

God is outside of time, for He is eternal.

Page 25: Gods Right To Rule

God's Dealings With Man

Page 26: Gods Right To Rule

26

Adam

God's purpose in creation was to have man rule creationunder submission to God.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Genesis 1:26-28

Page 27: Gods Right To Rule

27

When Adam sinned, Satan became the god of this world, the prince of the power of the air.

2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2

Satan wants to deny God's right to rule. He can do so by his own rebellion, but also... by tempting man to rule himself.

Sin never stands still. One sin leads to another. Sin in the life of an individual or church keeps expanding.

Result of Adam's Sin

Page 28: Gods Right To Rule

28

Cain and Abel

God required a blood sacrifice

Cain sacrificed grain, an unacceptable substitute for a blood sacrifice. He rejected the idea that he needed redemption.God pointed out to Cain that Cain's heart was not right.

Abel offered a blood sacrifice, showing that he acknowledged his need for redemption. God accepted this offering.

Genesis 4

Page 29: Gods Right To Rule

29

Cain and Abel

When his bloodless sacrifice was rejected, Cain could not take his anger out on God. Instead, he took his anger out on Abel, whose sacrifice was acceptable.

Man must acknowledgeGod's right to rule (and His right to make the rules) for us to be acceptable with Him.

Genesis 4

Page 30: Gods Right To Rule

30

Noah

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Genesis 6:5-6

The evil of man was his denial of God's right to rule. To maintain His right, God had to assert it.

to assert his independence from God.

God asserted His right to rule by confusing man's tongues and giving following generations a love for their native languages.

God won this skirmish.

36

Cult of Semiramis

She was called Queen of Heaven. Her devotees said that she controlled access to Heaven.

She was the high priestess of the mother/child cult.

Note regarding picture: Roman Catholics borrowed the Queen of Heaven imagery from the worshipers of Semiramis and applied it to Mary. We borrowed it back to illustrate the cult of Semiramis.

Page 37: Gods Right To Rule

37

Religion of Semiramis

The religion of Semiramis became the religion of all who rejected God's right to rule - those who chose to live independently of God.

The names of the mother/child changed with each place where it spread.

It spread around the world and even into the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. (Ezekiel 8) This is why God allowed them to be conquered and deported.

It spread to Pergamos in modern Turkey where God said that the city was “where Satan dwells”. (Revelation 2:12-18)

This religion moved on to the Etruscan Plains of Italy and on into Rome itself.

Page 38: Gods Right To Rule

38

Constantine

Constantine, emperor of Rome from 306 to 337 AD, decided to use the Christian faith to help unify his empire.

Christianity became the official religion of the empire. Constantine forced pagan priests to become "Christian". No change of heart or god was required.

Rome brought pagan ways into the Christian faith by force.

The mother/child cult was changed from Venus/Cupid to Mary/Jesus.

Page 39: Gods Right To Rule

39

God's Religious System

God called Abram to oppose what Nimrod was doing, to show God's right to rule through dependence upon Him (faith).

Are we living Christian life in dependence upon God?Jesus proclaimed in John 15:5, “for without me ye can do nothing.” Do we believe and act upon that?

God exercised, and still does,His right to rule through Abraham's seed.

Page 40: Gods Right To Rule

Abraham's Family

Terah's son, Haran, died in Ur. His family went with their grandfather Terah and the rest of the family to a place named Haran. The place Haran may have been named after Terah's late son.

Sarai was married to Abram (they had different mothers).

Nahor married Milcah.

Abram Moves To Bethel In Caanan

After the death of Abram's father, Terah, Abram answered God's call and moved to Caanan.

Abram's brother Nahor and his wife, Milcah, remained in Haran.

Lot went with Abram and Sarai.

and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

Abram and Lot Separate

After a while, the land would not support the flocks and herds of both Abram and Lot.

Lot chose to move near Sodom, where the land was good.

Genesis 13:8-12

Page 46: Gods Right To Rule

46

Lot Moves To Sodom

Lot moved from Hebron to the place called “Lot's Tent”.

He later moved into Sodom.

God renewed His promise to Abram after Lot left.

God's Promise to AbramAfter Lot Moved Toward Sodom

Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art: northward, and southward, and eastward and westward. For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth; so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. Arise, walk in the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

Genesis 13:14-17

Page 48: Gods Right To Rule

48

Ishmael

In trying to help God, Sarai gave her slave, Hagar, to Abram for the purpose of giving Abram a son.

God made this promise to Hagar regarding Ishmael, “And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him;” Genesis 16:12

Later God changed Abram's name to Abraham and changed Sarai's name to Sarah. Then Sarah bore Isaac, the son of God’s promise to Abraham.

AbramSarai Hagar

Ishmael

Page 49: Gods Right To Rule

49

Inheritors of God's Promise

God's promise to Abram was made after Lot was gone, so Lot and his descendants are not inheritors of the promise.

When Isaac was weaned, Ishmael mocked him. Sarah demanded that Hagar and Ishmael be cast out of the tribe. God told Abraham to listen to the voice of his wife, “for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.” (Genesis 21:12-13) Therefore Ishmael and his descendants are not inheritors of the promise.

Later, Isaac had two sons, Esau and Jacob. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob. Esau and his descendants are not inheritors of the promise.

The inheritors of God's promise are the descendants of Israel (Jacob).

This land extends from the River Nile to the Euphrates in Iraq.(Why? ...one can see that far from the hills, where Abram was.)

Page 50: Gods Right To Rule

50

Ishmael's Descendants

Ishmael was the father of the Arabs. They were many tribes. One of his sons was Nebajoth, the father of the Nabateans, who lived in Dedan.

There has been ancient enmity of the Ishmaelites toward the Israelites.

Page 51: Gods Right To Rule

51

Ishmaelite Worship

We don't know how widespread the worship of Yahweh, the God of Israel, was among the Ishmaelites, but we do know that...

by the time of Muhammad, Hubal was the Ishmaelite allah (god). Hubal and 360 other allahs had their worship “merged” by

Muhammad into the worship of one Allah (God). The Jews refused to allow their God, Yahweh, to be just another

god to be “merged” into Muhammad's Allah, so the Jews became Muhammad's enemies.

The hatred of the Ishmaelites for Israel has never been universal, either in history or in the present time.

Page 52: Gods Right To Rule

52

Could The Church Replace Israel?

There are those who say that the church, as “spiritual Israel”, is the inheritor of the promise of God's land to Israel. They would not want the billion plus number of Christians now living to crowd onto this piece of land, much less those Christians who have died.

I suppose that they might spiritualize the location and extent of the land, too. In that case, the promise is meaningless.

God said what He meant and means what He says. Believe Him.

Page 53: Gods Right To Rule

53

The Promise Becomes A Blood Covenant

After Abram rescued Lot in battle (Genesis 14) and Abram refused to accept booty from the king of Sodom, God appeared in a vision to Abram, promising to be Abram's shield and great reward.

Abram wanted a sign of God's promise because he was at this point childless.

God gave Abram a blood covenant.

Let's stop for a minute to discuss contracts and the different kinds of covenants, so we understand how strong and important the blood covenant is.

Page 54: Gods Right To Rule

54

Contracts and Covenants

Contracts A contract is based on distrust and limited liability.

It may be voided by mutual consent.

Covenant A covenant is based on mutual trust and responsibility.

It cannot be broken even if new circumstances occur.

Covenants in Abraham's time were of four levels:

Page 55: Gods Right To Rule

55

Types of Covenants Hand

This is the handshake agreement. It can be broken by denying that the covenant was made.

Page 56: Gods Right To Rule

56

Types of Covenants Hand Shoe

This covenant was made by exchanging a shoe. It's more difficult to deny when the other person has your shoe.Of course, shoes can be stolen...

Page 57: Gods Right To Rule

57

Types of Covenants Hand Shoe Salt

The ancients carried bags of salt:

a pinch of my salt in your bag and a pinch of your salt in my bag, when witnessed, was hard to separate or deny.

Page 58: Gods Right To Rule

58

Types of Covenants Hand Shoe Salt Blood

A blood covenant could not be changed or brokenuntil the parties died.

Page 59: Gods Right To Rule

59

Abrahamic CovenantAnd when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram;... and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates. Genesis 15:12-18

This was a blood covenant. (The smoking furnace with a burnt offering.)

Abraham was asleep. Thus he was not party to the Covenant. Abraham was the recipient of it.

This Covenant cannot be changed or terminated until God dies.

(Can Israel give piece of the land to anybody? Even if they were a party to this, which they are not?)

Page 60: Gods Right To Rule

60

Importance of the Abrahamic Covenant

God's right to rule depends upon His ability to make decisions and covenants without consultation with anyone.

The fallen angels, led by Satan, seek to kill all legal inheritors of the Abrahamic Covenant, thus trying to make God out to be an impotent liar.

The legal inheritors are the Jewish people. If the fallen angels could be successful in destroying the inheritors of the Abrahamic Covenant, then they are justified in their rebellion against God.

Is it any wonder, then, that the anti-God world wants to destroy Israel and the Jews?

Page 61: Gods Right To Rule

61

Ancient Hatreds

A hatred between two people that lasts for many generations of their descendants is unknown to most of us in the Western world, but it is very common in the Middle East and in other parts of the world, too.

Can you imagine a Finland where the descendants of the Whites and the Reds (the 1918 civil war) continued to hate one another, generation after generation?

In the slides that follow observe the phrase “ancient hatred(s)”. These will show the historical framework for today's Middle East problems.

Page 62: Gods Right To Rule

62

Ancient Hatreds InAbraham's Descendants

A feud developed between Abraham's wife, Sarah, and her slave, Hagar. Both bore Abraham a son. Each thought that her son should inherit God's covenant made to Abraham, but God chose Sarah's son, Isaac, to be Abraham's inheritor.

To this day, descendants of Ishmael, the first born son of Abraham, insist that Ishmael is the rightful heir of Abraham. This is the source of the ancient hatreds in the Middle East.

Hagar was an Egyptian. When Muhammad “merged” the 360 gods of the region into one god, Allah, the gods of the Egyptians, Osiris and others, were included. That's why we don't hear of these pagan gods today.

Modern Egyptians are largely followers of Muhammad.

Page 63: Gods Right To Rule

63

Lot EscapesThe Destruction Of Sodom

When God destroyed Sodom, He delivered Lot and his family. They fled first to the nearby town of Zoar, then to a cave in a nearby mountain.

To prevent Lot's line from dying out, his two daughters got him drunk and each had a son by him.

(They thought they were the only humans alive, at least in that area.)

Gods Of Moab And Ammon

Chemosh, the Moabite god, and Milcom (Molech), the Ammonite god, were worshiped as Baal by Israelites when they were apostate.

The Moabites and the Ammonites have had an ancient hatred of Israel that extends from the time that Israel left Egypt. (Israel had to cross the Moabite and the Ammonite land to get into the promised land.) The Moabites and the Ammonites (both are descendants of Lot) are today among the Palestinians.

What God Says About The Edomites

And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 25:14

Because thou [Esau] hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:

Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee. Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.

Ezekiel 35:5-7

Page 73: Gods Right To Rule

73

Who Are The Edomites Today?

I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness. Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever. Malachi 1:2-4

The Edomites have lost their identity as a separate people, but they live south of the Dead Sea, although some migrated into Judah after the Jews were deported to Babylon. Some adopted a form of Judaism. King Herod was one of those.

The Palestinians consist of several ancient peoples, none of whom exist as separate tribes today.

80% of the people of Jordanians are Palestinian. These include

Ammonites Moabites Edomites Other ancient peoples

Palestinians live in Israel, Judea, Samaria, Gaza, Syria and Lebanon.

"We have come to you... with people who love death more than you love life." -- Ansar Jund Allah, Commander Of Gaza Organization

Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee. Ezekiel 35:5-7

Peace will come to the Middle East when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us (Jews). -- Golda Meir [quoted in Media Bias and the Middle East (2003) by Paul Carlson, p. 10]

76

Joseph And The Egyptians Joseph appears to have been sold as a slave during the time when

the Hyskos ruled Egypt. Because the Hyskos were not Egyptian, the idea of a Hebrew slave being elevated is not out of line.

Under Joseph, almost all the wealth of Egypt passed from the Egyptian people into the hands of Pharaoh. The native Egyptians were probably not very happy about it, but they had no choice.

The Hyskos were overthrown by Egyptians. This new Pharaoh did not know Joseph, but did know the Hebrew people as descendants of Isaac and Israel.

These native Egyptians had an animosity toward Israel handed down from Hagar and Ishmael. This was probably the basis for fearing that Israel would join Egypt's enemies, thus justifying Israel's enslavement.

Page 77: Gods Right To Rule

77

The Abrahamic Covenant And The Egyptians

The Abrahamic Covenant was in force through Israel (Jacob) and his descendants.

Lucifer wished to negate that Covenant and could do so through the enslavement and later annihilation of the Covenant people.

Pharaoh was Lucifer's instrument. As Pharaoh cursed Israel, God's curse in the Abrahamic Covenant

fell back upon him. (... and curse him that curseth thee). Egyptian hatred for Israel began before the Exodus.

It is an ancient hatred and continues to this day.

It will end when Israel crushes Egypt in a future war noted in Psalm 83,

which we will address later.

Page 78: Gods Right To Rule

78

Israel As A Nation When Israel left Egypt, she was a people without territory. As they approached the promised land, they went through

territory occupied by the Moabites. The Moabite King employed a prophet, Baalam, to curse Israel.

He tried, but could only say what God told him to say:

I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth. And Edom shall be a possession, Seir (Ishmael) also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.

Numbers 24:17-18

Notice the peoples mentioned: Moab, Sheth, Edom and the Ishmaelites.

79

Israel Under King David

Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued; Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah. And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men. And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

II Samuel 8:11-14

Look at the names of the peoples that David subdued. Their descendants hate the descendants of David's nation to this day. This is an ancient hatred.

Page 80: Gods Right To Rule

80

Israel and Edom Disappear Israel ceased to exist as a nation when it was destroyed by the

Romans in 135 A.D. The Jews were evicted, but not destroyed. The intention of the Romans was that the Jewish nation should be forgotten, so they renamed it Palaestina, after the ancient Philistines who once dominated the area.

Maps of the time of the Bar Kokhba revolt show Edom as a country. Edom and Israel were shown as Palestine after the revolt.

The Palestinians include the Edomites, but also other peoples. Today they are mostly Islamic, but some Christian.

The assumption was that God was weak and could not defend His people, the Jews.Wherever they went, the Jews remained a separate ethnic group.

Page 81: Gods Right To Rule

81

Replacement Theology

The Roman Emperor, Constantine (306 to 337 A.D.), established the Christian church as the Empire's official religion where it gained strength and influence.

The Jews were scattered throughout the world and not seen as a people.

A doctrine called Replacement Theology stated that the Jews were no longer God's chosen people, but had been replaced by the church.

This view required that the Old Testament and the portions of the Bible that dealt with Israel's restoration be made to mean what the theologians wanted it to mean (out of whole cloth) or that it be ignored.

Page 82: Gods Right To Rule

82

Replacement Theology

God used the family of the prophet Hosea to illustrate His dealings with the Jews. Regarding Hosea's son,

Then said God, Call his name Loammi [not my people] for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God. Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God. Hosea 1:9-10

85% of the church today teaches that Israel will not be restored, having been replaced by the church.

Page 83: Gods Right To Rule

83

Could Israel Be Replaced?

Could Israel be replaced by the church or any other body?

Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:

If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.

Jeremiah 31:35-37

God's Intent Regarding Israel

... and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God. Hosea 2:23

So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. Ezekiel 39:7

Page 85: Gods Right To Rule

85

God's Intent Regarding Israel

Read this slowly, considering each phrase:

And there shall be no more a pricking brier unto the house of Israel, nor any grieving thorn of all that are round about them, that despised them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

Thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob.

And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yea, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God.

Israel Becomes God's People Again

The first inklings of the restoration of the Jewish state began in 1870. The following slides give a very abbreviated summary of what led up to the nation of Israel as we know it today.

Page 87: Gods Right To Rule

87

1896 – The Jewish State Theodor Herzl asserted that the solution to Europe's

“Jewish Question” was through the establishment of a Jewish State.

A year later Herzl's Zionist Organization “called for the establishment of a home for the Jewish people in Palestine secured under public law".

Page 88: Gods Right To Rule

88

1917 – The Balfour Declaration

The Balfour Declaration favored Jewish Zionist aspirations to establish in Palestine a national home for the Jewish people. It did not state how much land would make up that state.

Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Jordan were all establishedafter World War I. This means that those countries were established after the idea of “reserving” Palestine for Jewswas published in this Declaration.

Page 89: Gods Right To Rule

89

1947 – United Nations TakesPalestine Mandate

In 1947, Britain Turned the League of Nations Mandate Over to the United Nations.

The U.N. Adopted Resolution 181, partitioning the land into two states.

Israel was to be the (not a) Jewish State. Jordan was to be an Arab state. Israel agreed to the partition. The Arab countries and Palestinian Arabs did not accept this

Resolution.

Page 90: Gods Right To Rule

90

Original Land Reservation The original land set aside for the Jews included

most all of Gaza, Israel, West Bank and Jordan –46,000 sq. miles (119 140 sq. km.).

This would have been more in line with the Abrahamic covenant:

In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: Genesis 15:18

Muslims claim that Yahweh, the God of Israel, and allah (the god) of Islam are the same god. Still, the Arabs rejected the Abrahamic covenant and God's right to rule. Allah has given them different orders – all of the land for the Muslims and none for the Jews.

Page 91: Gods Right To Rule

91

1948 – Israel, The Jewish Nation On May 14, 1948, the Jewish leaders declared their nationhood in

Israel. There were 8,000 sq. miles (20 720 sq. km.) given to Israel after

Arab objections. This included modern Israel, Gaza and the West Bank - only 13% of

what had been Palestine. Arabs chose a war of annihilation. They lost.

After the “land for peace” initiatives in the following years, Israel today has only about 5,591 sq. miles (14 480 sq. km.).

This means that Israel got only 13% of the land “reserved” for them, and later they had to give about 1/3 of that away to Arabs.

What other country has been required to give and has given 1/3 of its land to their enemies voluntarily?

Page 92: Gods Right To Rule

92

Israel And The Church

Since 1948, the church has co-existed with Israel, even as they co-existed in the early years of the church in the first century.

The difference is that,

in the first century, Israel faded, then disappeared from view,

whereas in these days God's hand is seen more and more in Israel.

Page 93: Gods Right To Rule

93

Replacement Theology?

Replacement Theology came about as national Israel disappeared from view. Even then, this theology required a non-literal interpretationof the apostle Paul's writing:

For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.

And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

Romans 11:25-27

Page 94: Gods Right To Rule

94

Death of Replacement Theology

To maintain a belief in Replacement Theology, one must contend that the re-establishment of the nation of Israel is insignificant to God's dealing with man. Indeed this is exactly what church organizations do.

Why would they be so willfully blind?

For some, it is because of their reverence for Tradition:(We cannot be wrong.)

They often have an interest (political power, organization, wealth) in not seeing God's hand in modern Israel.

God is still dealing powerfully with those elements of the Christian church who believe His Word. The believers consist of both Jews and Gentiles, but they do not supplant God's dealing with the Jewish nation.(In other words: The Jewish nation did not have to go away in order for the church to come in.)

Page 95: Gods Right To Rule

95

Aliyah

“Aliyah” is the Hebrew word for “ascent” and refers to immigration by Jews into Israel. Aliyah has been a part of Jewish practice since shortly after the year 1900, but the pace greatly increased after the Shoah (Holocaust).

For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Ezekiel 36:24

Page 96: Gods Right To Rule

96

Aliyah

Ezekiel's prophecy (Ezekiel 36:24) likely refers to the return to Israel authorized by Cyrus the Great, but it also applies to modern aliyah because the prophecy speaks of “all countries”, not just Persia.

The aliyah from Persia was the first time. Isaiah spoke of a second aliyah where God would gather the Jews from the four corners of the earth.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Isaiah 11:11-12

Page 97: Gods Right To Rule

97

God's Plan For Jews And Arabs

Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit;

Behold, I will pluck them [Arabs] out of their [Israel's] land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them [the surrounding Arab nations]. And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man [Jew and Arab] to his heritage, and every man to his [respective] land.

Page 98: Gods Right To Rule

98

God's Plan For Jews And Arabs

And it shall come to pass, if they [the resettled Arabs] will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, [Yahweh] The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal [and his successor, Allah]; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.

But if they will not obey [God], I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 12:14-17

God has a plan for an inheritance for both Jew and Arab. He is just, much more so than the Muslim governments who have kept the Arabs of Israel in refugee camps by making the rules for the Palestinians to gain residency in the Arab countries prohibitive.

So, they can't go into Israel (too many of them) and they can't immigrate into the other Arab countries.

Page 99: Gods Right To Rule

99

Allah's Plan

The Arab nations have advanced their own foreign policy. In 1955, Egypt's President Nasser said:

Egypt has decided to dispatch her heroes, the disciples of Pharaoh and the sons of Islam and they will cleanse the land of Palestine....There will be no peace on Israel's border because we demand vengeance, and vengeance is Israel's death.

Page 100: Gods Right To Rule

100

How Is Allah's Plan Working?

The policy of the Arab nations has not changed. They have attacked Israel time and time again. Because each Arab attack has resulted in Israeli victory, Arabs have cried, “He started it. He hit me back!”

Without looking to see who started a fight, many nations regard Israel as an aggressor nation. An examination of these wars can easily lead one to think that Israel has had divine help.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go43SlqTMj8

If we think of condemning Israel, we must be very careful lest we find ourselves standing against the God of the Jews and the Christians.

1956 WarOn October 30, 1956, Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Abba Eban, explained Egyptian provocations to the Security Council:

During the six years during which this belligerency has operated in violation of the Armistice Agreement there have occurred

1,843 cases of armed robbery and theft, 1,339 cases of armed clashes with Egyptian armed forces, 435 cases of incursion from Egyptian controlled territory, 172 cases of sabotage perpetrated by Egyptian military units and

fedayeen in Israel. As a result of these actions of Egyptian hostility within Israel,

364 Israelis were wounded and 101 killed. In 1956 alone, as a result of this aspect of Egyptian aggression,28 Israelis were killed and 127 wounded.

[And they call this an armistice?]

Page 102: Gods Right To Rule

102

1956 War

The fedayeen mentioned by Abba Eban were organized by Yasser Arafat into the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).They were and are terrorists.

Israel, Britain and France were involved in attacking Egypt, but fighting lasted only 100 hours.

U.S. pressure resulted in an Israeli withdrawal from the areas it conquered without obtaining any concessions from the Egyptians. This sowed the seeds of the 1967 war.

Page 103: Gods Right To Rule

103

1967 War

The Six-Day War happened when Egypt, Jordan and Syria were on the verge of attacking Israel.

While hostile forces ate breakfast, Israel destroyed their planes on the ground.

In six days Israel conquered Jerusalem, the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank and the Golan Heights.

Page 104: Gods Right To Rule

104

1973 War

Egypt and Syria attacked Israel to regain territory lost in the Six-Day War. Israel retained control of these territories.

These attacking nations were God's evil neighbors, according to Jeremiah 12. (Note God's identification with Israel.)

The Abrahamic Covenant is still in force. God will bless those who bless His covenant people and will curse those who curse them.

Page 105: Gods Right To Rule

105

1973 War

As it became apparent thatconventional warfare against Israelwas going to result in more Arab defeats, Nasser's “heroes”, the fedayeen, became the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). They, along with Al Qaeda, Palestinians and others adopted an ancient method of warfare: terror.

Page 106: Gods Right To Rule

Of the Edomites / Palestinians Jeremiah prophesied,

Thy terribleness [terror] hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.

Jeremiah 49:16-17

Terrorism

How will the terrorism of the present day stop? Here's what God says:

For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen:as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee:thy reward [retribution] shall return upon thine own head.

Israel's Future Wars

Israel's prophets wrote of three wars that have not yet been fought, so we assume that they are in the future. We can see that they are separate conflictsbecause of who the belligerents are.Of course, on the one side is Israel. On the other side are...

The nations immediately surrounding Israel (Psalm 83)

The nations that surround the Psalm 83 belligerents (Ezekiel 38,39)

All the world's nations. This one will culminate in Armageddon.

Page 109: Gods Right To Rule

109

The Psalm 83 War

The conditions in Israel are the same as they werewhen Asaph wrote this Psalm 83:

The Jews are thriving financially, drafting blueprints for a temple for God.The descendants of those who hated Israel then hate Israel now.Asaph's plea was to God:

For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. Psalm 83:2

The survival of the Jews is necessary for the Abrahamic Covenant and the confirming covenants with Isaac and Jacob to be valid.(Genesis 17:19, 21), (Leviticus 26:42)

The issue is spiritual: Satan vs. God.

Page 110: Gods Right To Rule

Ancient Belligerents In Psalm 83 War

This is a direct assault against the Abrahamic Covenant.

The Ezekiel 37-39 War

Ezekiel 37, where the dry bones of Israel come to life, speaks of a re-birth and new life. Most of the Jews in Israel today do not believe that Jesus is the messiah.

This suggests the realization of Jews that He is indeed who He demonstrated Himself to be.

The war of Ezekiel 38 and 39 takes placeright after dry bones live.In fact it will most probably be while'dry bones' are coming to life.

Page 114: Gods Right To Rule

114

The Ezekiel 37-39 War

This war will take place as Israel thinks thatshe resides in peace and security. She is also quite rich, most likely because of the spoils of the Psalm 83 war.The mighty Israel Defense Force will be no match for this coalition.

Israel's God will win the battle for Israel with torrential rain, hail, fire and sulphur. It seems that one or more earthquakes are involved;the fire and sulphur indicate the possibility ofa volcanic eruption and/or nuclear war.

Israel will need seven months to clean up the mess, burning the weapons of war for fuel.

Page 115: Gods Right To Rule

115

The Great Tribulation

For then shall be great tribulation, such as was notsince the beginning of the world to this time,no, nor ever shall be.And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.Matthew 24:21-22

Daniel 11:36 – 12:3 has these words within it:

...and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people (Israel) shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book (believers in Jesus).

Page 116: Gods Right To Rule

116

The Great Tribulation

Most of the Book of Revelation (chapters 4 – 18)describes this seven-year period of trouble that is so great that life on earth is threatened. This horrible time is a combination of natural disaster, war and cosmic disaster.

It is a sad fact of life that people are not inclined to seek God when things are going well. They are more inclined to do so when times are bad.If this is what it takes, then this is what man will get.

Page 117: Gods Right To Rule

117

The Great Tribulation

The intent of God is to motivate disobedient but desperate people to call out to Him for deliveranceand to submit to His right to rule. The Book of Revelation shows that there is also much activity in Heaven during this time.

The primary intent of the Great Tribulation is to motivatethe disobedient of Israel to cry out for her Messiah. When she does so, Jesus will appear and deliver them.

Page 118: Gods Right To Rule

118

The Great Tribulation

Daniel prophesied of this time:

... and the people of the prince that shall comeshall destroy the city and the sanctuary;and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he [the Antichrist] shall confirm the covenantwith many for one week [seven years]: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrificeand the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Daniel 9:26-27

Page 119: Gods Right To Rule

119

The Antichrist

The Antichrist is so called because he comes representing himself as God's anointed, but he, with his sidekick, the False Prophet, are empowered by Satan.

Daniel's prophecy (Daniel 12:11-12) implies that a third Jewish temple will be built because he says that the daily sacrifices will be offered again. This will be either before the Great Tribulation begins or during the first three and a half years of this seven year period.

We should note that, even today, furnishings of this temple are being made as well as vestments for the priests who will serve there.

Page 120: Gods Right To Rule

120

The Antichrist

Babylon's King Nebuchadnezzar had a dreamof a statue that the prophet Daniel interpreted.

The parts of this statue predicted the present and future world empires.

The Antichrist's empire is represented in such a waythat prophecy experts believe that he will come out of a revived Roman Empire, which might be the European Union.

Page 121: Gods Right To Rule

121

The Antichrist

Islam's 12th Imam, Mohammad al Mahdi is speculated by some to be the Antichrist.Mahdi is not predicted in the Quran, but in the Haddiths, the oral tradition.

He has a sidekick, called Jesus, who is not the same as Jesus of Nazareth.

The Mahdi and Jesus are supposed to reign for seven years. It is interesting to note that the bad guys in the Christian storyare the good guys in the Islamic story.

There are many Muslim interpretations about his personand many Muslims who have claimed to be him, so there's little that Jews and Christians can learn about him.

Page 122: Gods Right To Rule

122

The Antichrist

We could speculate endlessly as to who the Antichrist is, but it really doesn't matter, for we have no control over this beast.

Regardless of who Antichrist is, we know that he is empowered by Lucifer to war against the people of God.This is the final showdown before the thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ.

Page 123: Gods Right To Rule

123

Armageddon

At the end of the seven-year Great Tribulationwill be a battle to end all battles: Armageddon.

The Antichrist with the western nations will face the armies of the east.

The Euphrates River will dry up allowing these armies to cross over to meet the Antichrist's forces gathered in Israel's Valley of Jezreel on the Plain of Esraelon.

Page 124: Gods Right To Rule

124

Armageddon

Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle;and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

...

Zechariah 14:1-2

Page 125: Gods Right To Rule

Armageddon

Then shall the LORD [Jesus] go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Zechariah 14:3-4

Page 126: Gods Right To Rule

Armageddon

God, remembering the Abrahamic Covenant, and willing to demonstrate His right to rule by preserving His people Israel will protect them in a desert place during this war.See Isaiah 16:1-4, Matthew 24:16 and Revelation 12:6, 14.“Sela” in Isaiah is believed to be Petra in Jordan,in the land of Edom which is specifically excluded from the Antichrist’s grasp in this final battle (Daniel 11:41).

When these people cry to God for deliverance, Jesus will appear and stop the Antichrist and the war with a word.

As Martin Luther wrote in “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”,“One little word shall fell him.”

Page 127: Gods Right To Rule

127

The Millennial Reign of Christ

Following His victory at the Battle of Armageddon, according to Revelation 19-20, the Lord Jesus will set up His Kingdom on Earth, which will last for 1,000 years.

Those who look for the freedom to do what we wish will be disappointed.

Jesus will rule with a rod of iron. Those who have put their trust in God will be immortal and will reign with Him.Those who survive the Great Tribulation will enter the kingdom as long-living mortals.

Satan will be confined so that he will not be able to tempt man, but the mortals will still be capable of sin.

Page 128: Gods Right To Rule

128

The Final Judgment

Revelation 20:4 – 15 tells us that

at the end of the thousand year reign of Christ, Satan will be released to inspire those who reject God's right to rule in a final rebellion against Him.

It will be a short rebellion, followed by the final judgment, where those who are damned will be judged by their deeds.

Revelation, chapters 21 and 22 describe what we normally think of as Heaven.

Page 129: Gods Right To Rule

129

What About The Church?

Romans 11 describes

how that the natural olive branch, Israel, has been broken off because of their unbeliefand how the wild olive branch, the gentiles, have been grafted into the tree.

For the last 2,000 years, God has been dealing with the believing elements of the Christian church as His people.

For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. Romans 11:25

Page 130: Gods Right To Rule

130

What About The Church?

In Romans 11, Paul makes it clear that the time of the church, which consists of both Jews and Gentiles,is a temporary time and that when “the fullness of the Gentiles be come in”,all Israel shall be saved.

Israel shall be known as God's people.

So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more:and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD,the Holy One in Israel.

Ezekiel 39:7

Page 131: Gods Right To Rule

131

What About The Church?

The statement in Ezekiel 39:7, “My people Israel” indicates thatGod will be identified with Israel then as He is with the church now.

This would seem to indicate that the Ezekiel 38-39 war will likely be when the church is out of the picture. The church came into being as Israel's status as “God's Chosen People” was being lost. The church will likely leave as Israel's status is restored.

Page 132: Gods Right To Rule

132

What About The Church?

But how will the church “leave”?We are told in I Corinthians 15:51-52

Behold I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lordshall not prevent (precede) them which are asleep.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God:and the dead in Christ shall be raised first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught uptogether with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

What About The Church?

The exact time when the church is caught up is not precisely revealed in scripture. It is only inferred. While godly people argue about the precise timing, most of those who accept the Bible “as written”, including this writer, believe that it will be before the Great Tribulation, for the purpose of the Great Tribulation is to get those who are resisting God's right to rule to submit to Him.The believing church has already done that.

We're simply not told exactly when it will happen. What we believe doesn't make any difference anyhow.God will do what He will do. He has the right to rule!
