EVENT REPORT
In today’s world, when the humanities are often neglected, literature found a special
celebration. G. D. Goenka Public School, Sarita Vihar, hosted the inter-school literary
event ‘Goenkan Literazzi: The Festival of Language and Literature’ on Thursday,
August, 03, 2017.
Over 180 students from seventeen schools of Delhi-NCR participated in the event,
making the competitions lively and stimulating. It was a splendid opportunity for
students to play with words, to read, write, act, speak, and listen—to be creative in all
domains which engage language, combining both intellect and imagination. It was
made more illustrious with the presence of judges such as Dr. Minoti Chatterjee, Mr.
Jayashree Mehta, Ms. Ritu Bawa, Ms. Nandini Guha, Mr. Venkatesh Swami, Mr. Ramit
Bhatnagar, Ms. Shaguna Gahilote, Ms. Vandana Tandon, Ms. Rachna Bisht, Ms. Sneha
Mukherjee, Ms. Swati Roy, and Ms. Debolina Dey, amongst others, who were
delighted by the written and oratory skills of the students. The event comprised of
five competitions conducted under two categories: Category 1- Classes IV-VI and
Category 2- Classes VII-IX. The competitions included: Poesy Slam (poetry recitation)
and Spin a Yarn (short story writing using a moral) for category 1; Report It
(newspaper making) and Shakespeare’s Sermon (presentation of monologues from
Shakespeare’s plays) for category 2; and Unveil the Script (enactment) for both
categories (1 and 2).
The program commenced with the welcome song and dance, lending a grand opening
to the event. School Principal Mrs. Seema Sahay’s inaugural address welcomed the
participants and set them at ease as they then proceeded to their respective venues.
Poesy Slam was held in the Indian Music Room with judges Ms. Ritu Bawa and
Ms. Vandana Tandon.
For Report It, participants first occupied the Computer Lab to gather their raw
material and then shifted to the Yoga Room, where judges Ms. Jayashree
Mehta and Mr. Venkatesh Swami.
The monologues of Shakespeare’s Sermon were performed in the Activity
Room, where judges honourable Ms. Minoti Chatterjee and Ms. Debolina Dey
brought an inspired aura.
Spin a Yarn took place in the Concept Room, with respected judges Ms. Nandini
Guha and Ms. Shaguna Gahilote inspiring the young story-tellers to think out of
the box.
Unveil the Script for category 1 was held in the Western Music Room where
judges Ms. Sneha Mukherjee and Mr. Ramit Bhatnagar applauded the young
actors as they performed on the theme ‘God helps those who help
themselves’; while the same competition for category too was held in the
Auditorium where esteemed judges Ms. Swati Roy and Ms. Rachna Bisht were
wowed by performances on the theme ‘One Man’s Trash is another Man’s
Treasure.’
The competitions were held side by side at all the venues, and all students, teachers,
and judges gathered in the auditorium to catch the tail end of the dramatic
performances. The judges also conceded to speak to the audience and shared their
observations of students’ performances and lauded them. Mrs. Paromita Mukherjee,
middle school coordinator announced the much-awaited results then offered the vote
of thanks. All participants were given out participation certificates. The event
concluded with the overall winners, emerging to be Lotus Valley International School,
Noida, being conferred with the magnificent rolling trophy, and the competition
winners being conferred with their shields. The participants cheering for their teams
filled the auditorium with the sound of loud applause. The event was a huge success
and garnered the praise of all judges, participants, and teacher-in-charges.
