Originally from Lancashire, Emma, 35,studied in Sheffield, then stayed putafter securing an engineering job atthe Advanced Manufacturing Park.She and her husband, Shaun, ahealthcare assistant, bought their firsthome in Owllthorpe in 2008, thenmoved to a £275,000 four-bedder onthe Waverley estate in 2014.
“We’re close to the motorway andcan get to the city centre easily,”Emma says. There’s also plenty closeat hand to entertain the children (Freya,3, and Finley, 18 months), including theBotanical Gardens and the TropicalButterfly House. The couple met otherfamilies through a local baby group:“The friendships continued after wereturned to work. We meet forplaydates or evening socials.”
Emma does say that facilities onthe new estate are limited: “Thequestion is the school. When wemade the move, we hoped itwould be built in two years —now it looks as if it won’t beready until 2019 or 2020.”
