Goings on in Australia
.. and being a good open source software citizen
Steve Androulakis [email protected]
What’s happening in Australia?
• NeCTAR is an Australian Government initiative to establish a ‘research cloud’
• Part of 47m has been allocated to establish 28,000 CPUs and have services written on the infrastructure
• Services that allow researchers to process, visualize, share and interact with data without having to maintain hardware / software
Collaboration with Stfc (RAL)
• ICAT and PanDATA are establishing data cataloguing for over 10 scientific facilities in Europe.
• Drawing on experiences customising and deploying MyTardis in diverse disciplines
Because data capture is hard.Custom instruments, user auth, systems, workflows, data types and sizes
Being a good open source citizen
• Version control and good practices
• Virtual machines / cloud images / deployment configuration management
• “Why NOT public?”
• ... helps sustainability and quality into the future
