WiFi Coming to Golden Gate Transit Commute Routes!
information, as it becomes available, on our
website (www.goldengate.org).
The weekend closure will allow traffic to
shift onto the newly completed southbound
structures and temporary bypass. During the
closure, there will be no access to Highway
101 from Marina Blvd/Richardson Ave. and
the public is encouraged to choose buses,
ferries, alternate routes, or car-free activities
to ease congestion in the area. To learn more
about the Doyle Drive replacement project, visit
PresidioParkway.org.
Immediately following the reopening of Doyle
Drive, bus schedules are expected to be delayed
as motorists adjust to the new routing. Thank
you for your patience during this time.
As part of the construction phasing for
the Presidio Parkway project, Caltrans
will close Doyle Drive for a weekend this fall,
which will result in severe impacts to traffic
traveling across the Golden Gate Bridge.
As a result, Golden Gate Transit will offer
modified bus schedules during the closure
to best meet the needs of our customers;
however, major delays are anticipated. The
weekend closure is expected to occur in
fall 2011. As of our print deadline, Caltrans
had not announced the dates or times of
the closure. When we know more, we will
distribute a special edition of the Golden
Gate Gazette with further details, including
maps and schedules. We will also post more

Golden Gate Ferry Offering Additional Service
Modifications to Golden Gate Transit weekend service during the Doyle Drive closure include:
• Route 10 will not operate during the weekend closure.
• Route 70 will be re-routed through Sausalito to serve stops normally served by Route 10.
• Routes 70 and 80 will begin and end at the Toll Plaza. They will provide the same number of trips as their regular weekend schedules.
• Route 101 will not serve stops south of the San Rafael Transit Center. Instead, it will travel to San Francisco via the East Bay and the Bay Bridge. It will provide additional trips to its regular weekend schedule.
• Route 92 special weekend service will offer 15-minute shuttle service between the Toll Plaza and downtown San Francisco, traveling along Geary Blvd.
• During the closure, Muni will not offer service to and from the Toll Plaza. Instead, Route 92 will accept Muni transfers for continuing travel to the Toll Plaza.
• Golden Gate Ferry will offer enhanced service to help transport customers between Marin County and San Francisco.
Work or surf on the way to work!
Within the next few
months, you’ll be able
to check your email, post to
your Facebook wall, or catch
up on the latest Dancing
with the Stars gossip during
your commute to and from
work. You’ll have a choice
of endless possibilities when
WiFi equipment is installed
on Golden Gate Transit buses. Installation will begin with
the Motor Coach Industry (MCI) buses (600- and 900-series
buses), followed by the rest of the commute fleet. The WiFi
network will allow commuters free internet access during their
ride on Golden Gate Transit.
Installation of WiFi service is being done to enhance the ride
for customers. “We knew that having internet access was a
very important feature to our customers, so we began looking
for a company who could help us accomplish this goal,”
explained Denis Mulligan, District General Manager. “We
also wanted to appeal to those customers who are currently
driving, but who could be lured to take the bus if they could
‘work on their way to work,’” he added.
The District recently reached an agreement with FreeFi
Networks, which will provide the wireless service at no cost in
exchange for selling online advertising. The District will procure
and install the hardware for the wireless service this fall.
Connectivity will be through existing cellular networks with the
intention of providing 4G connectivity when the technology is
available in the North Bay. All technical and customer service
issues will be handled by FreeFi Networks, whose contact
information will be posted on the WiFi-enabled buses.

The Marin County Public Works
Department has begun a complete
remodel of the Marin City Transit Hub,
located just outside the Gateway Shopping
Center on Donahue Street in Marin City.
During the remodel, the Transit Hub has
been relocated a short walk from its current
location to a temporary site on Drake Avenue,
directly across from the Marin City Public
Safety Building.
All buses serving the Marin City Transit Hub
are relocated, which includes Golden Gate
Transit regional bus routes 4, 10, 70, 80, and
92; Marin Transit local routes 17, 19, 22, 36,
66 (Muir Woods Shuttle), and 71; and Marin
Transit’s West Marin Stagecoach Route 61 and
Community Shuttle Route 222.
The remodel will include new street surfaces,
landscaping, lighting, and other passenger
amenities such as new shelters, bike racks,
and signage. Estimated date of completion is
November 22, 2011.
Golden Gate Transit does not predict an
impact to the actual running times of the
buses so schedules (arrival and departure
times) will be maintained. The impacts will be
felt more by those customers that initiate or
terminate their travel in Marin City since they
may have to walk further to and from the
temporary stop.
Please contact Marin Transit for further information and updates:
www.MarinTransit.org or at 415-226-0862.
