Page 2: GoLearn Learner Handbook 2020-21 · 2020. 9. 11. · We use HAND SANITIZER on our way in and out of building. We won’t move around buildings any more than we need to. When we do,

We will follow safe SOCIAL DISTANCING inside our classrooms and on-site

in general.

We continue to WASH

OUR HANDS regularly.

We will bring any REFRESHMENTS (tea, coffee, water, etc.) with us from home and we understand that tea/

coffee facilities will not be available this year.

We’ll KEEP BELONGINGS with us under

our desk.

If there’s an EMERGENCY we

will evacuate in the normal way via the safest and nearest

exit route.

Keeping you safe and wellAs we return to the classroom it is important to make sure we are keeping ourselves and each other safe. This year you will notice a lot of changes to our classrooms. There will be fewer desks and learners, we will have one-way systems in place in our learning centres and cleaning kits in classrooms for staff and tutors to use between classes. All our classrooms have been risk assessed to make sure we are totally compliant with Covid-19 safety guidelines and we ask that all learners help us where possible by following the guidelines. When returning to our classrooms this year:

We will not come to class if we are FEELING UNWELL for any reason. If we feel unwell we will tell a member of staff immediately.

We will follow all GUIDANCE given

to us by staff members.

We will try to arrive on-site for our classes

at the ALLOTTED TIME and leave the site

promptly after class.

We use HAND SANITIZER on our way in and out of building.

We won’t move around buildings any more than we need to. When we do, we’ll FOLLOW THE SIGNAGE and guidance, including one-way

systems. In two-way corridors we’ll keep to the left and give way to oncoming colleagues.

Only one person at a time will use a SET OF TOILETS and we will check they are empty before entering. We

won’t use our own signs to show a toilet is in use.

We’ll STAGGER BREAK TIMES

to avoid areas getting

too busy.

If we have to use any SHARED

EQUIPMENT (printers, kiln, etc.) we will maintain a

safe distance from others and clean

after use as appropriate.

We will make sure DESKS are left clean and tidy at the end of

our session.

We will MINIMISE the amount

of time we spend

outside of our classroom.

We will not move any FURNITURE unless

instructed by my tutor.

If we need to come to the ADULT LEARNING CENTRE outside of our lesson, we will

contact the office first to book an

appropriate time.

Supporting you as a learner

As a service we actively promote equality and inclusion by:

Fairness for All – Equality and DiversityWe are committed to meeting our duties under UK and other equality legislation and actively tackling discrimination in all its forms. The Equality Act 2010 gives people the right not to be treated less favourably by public authorities because of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and/or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. The Human Rights Act 1998 also requires public authorities to uphold and respect the standards set out in the European Convention on Human Rights.

Democracy The rule of law Individual liberty Mutual respect for and tolerance

of those with different faiths and beliefs, and for those without faith

Telling us about criminal convictionsWe are committed to equality of opportunity and encourage all learners to apply for our courses based on personal motivations and ambitions, not on their background or personal circumstances. Having a criminal record will not automatically stop you from studying with us and under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 you do not have to declare spent convictions. It is, however, a requirement that all learners disclose any unspent criminal convictions, pending convictions or bail conditions as a part of the standard application/enrolment process or if their circumstances change whilst studying with us. We will consider any information disclosed in a sensitive and confidential manner including the details of the offence, the time lapsed and the nature of the course you wish to study. If we determine that the information disclosed means that your chosen course is not suitable we will work with you, and potentially other organisations, to discuss alternatives. Failure to reveal information could lead to you being excluded from a course.

11

If you are in any doubt as to whether you need to disclose anything, please speak to your tutor in confidence or contact Gail Pringle the service Safeguarding Lead on 0800 988 0308.

Learner SurveysAnother way you can feedback to the service is by completing one or more of our learner surveys. We have four main surveys for the service: two are internal and two are provided for us by our funding and governing bodies. All feedback given to the service is treated in the strictest confidence and only shared with those for whom the information is intended. In the case of external surveys, the feedback you give is always anonymised before it is returned to us.Learner Evaluations – during, and at the end of your course, you will be asked to complete an Individual Learning Plan where we ask for your views. These are reviewed by Programme Managers and Senior Management for our annual Self-Assessment Reports. Your feedback is only used internally and is anonymised when being discussed.

FE Choices Learner Satisfaction Survey – this is a mandatory survey that most learners are asked to complete on behalf of Education Skills Funding Agency. This survey is designed to assess how satisfied you are with your learning experience and usually takes place between January and April.Learner Destination Survey – after courses have finished we are required to contact certain learners on behalf of our funding body, the Education Skills Funding Agency, to ask how your course has helped you. It is important we do this so we can receive funding and continue to subsidise our course fees.

How to ComplainThe nature of organisations is that, occasionally, things do go wrong. In these instances, we encourage all our learners to voice their concerns to us so that we can take steps to solve these problems and try to make sure they don’t happen again. To help us to improve the quality of our service, please follow this complaints procedure:

Speak to your tutor or any staff member in confidence

If you still have concernes please contact the relevant Programme Managr using the contact details on Page 20

If this does not resolve the issue email [email protected] or call 0800 988 0308 and ask to make a complaint

If your issue is still not resolved the next step is to send your complaint to Gail Pringle, Senior Adult Learning Manager, at [email protected]

If you feel you have still not received a satisfactory resolution then you can contact Paul Fleming, Head of Service for Leicestershire Adult Learning Service, or Leicestershire County Council’s complaints team via the www.leics.gov.uk site.
