Page 2: Golf-program booklet

Over this past decade your generosity has led to the Golf Tournament becoming a very successful fundraising endeavour for IDRF, enabling us to carry out a range of projects that have helped many beneficiaries, both overseas and in Canada. We are pleased to announce that the proceeds from this 10th Annual Golf Tournament will support L2L (License to Learn), an education project which partners with Toronto District School Board (TDSB) schools.

The IDRF Golf Committee and volunteers make this Golf Tournament possible and I would like to acknowledge their hard work, attention to detail, and their deep dedication.

I wish all of you an exciting and enjoyable day today. And we will be looking forward to the continuation of your wonderful partnership with IDRF again next year!

According to the Toronto District School Board, one third of students have no help with their schoolwork outside of the classroom.

IDRF and Licensed to Learn (L2L) are dedicated to helping students help themselves and others in creative and productive ways. L2L aims to train and certify student tutors who provide support to students who are academically at risk.

Participants in this project have been able to improve their grades in subjects such as math and language skills.

This project further provides leadership opportunities for student tutors; improves youth self esteem; and reduces failure and drop-out rates in priority Toronto neighbourhoods. As of September 2012, over 1000 youth have participated in L2L projects at 45 Toronto District School Board Schools. Looking ahead, IDRF and L2L will continue to expand this exciting initiative, providing increasing numbers of children with the skills they need to succeed academically.

After the immense success of the IDRF – License to Learn (L2L) initiative and the tremendous response for the project from golfers and sponsors alike at our previous Golf tournaments, we are delighted to be supporting L2L once again through the IDRF 10th Annual Golf Tournament.

IDRF - License to Learn (L2L)

Thank you for joining IDRF as we celebrate 10 years of golfing success and for supporting our efforts to improve the futures of children here in Canada.

idrF & Water

Over the past fifteen years, IDRF has had numerous projects fo-cused on providing clean water to marginalised populations across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Water is a basic building block of life and a crucial natural resource. Access to clean water is linked to food security, health and hygiene, while unsafe water contributes to the spread of diseases such as cholera, dysenty, malaria and typhoid. Water scarcity further leads to the stalling of human progress. IDRF’s water project will therefore provide clean water to affected communities through a number of initiatives.

IN PAKISTAN• More than 3 million Pakistanis become victims of waterborne diseases every year, of whom 1.2 million die. Almost half a million of these are children under five years of age.• IDRF will build wells for families in their homes (Approx 10 people in a family). • Cost of a household well: $400.

IN GAZA• Lack of access to sufficient clean water means that residents face serious health and sanitation risks. Continuing conflict in the region also contributes to this water scarcity.• IDRF will distribute clean water through trucks to serve schools (Approx 150 children plus 20 teachers in each school). • Cost of water for schools: $20 (per student, yearly). $250 (per school, monthly)$3000 (per school, yearly).

IN TANZANIA •75% of the population resides in rural areas, out of which only 40% has access to safe water.• IDRF will build community wells to serve 50 families each (Approx 450-600 people)• Cost of a community well: $12,000

IDRF will appreciate your support for its WATER projects
