You have been assembled into color-coded teams.

Page 14: Good afternoon, Agents.

The results of each team’s suspect food data will be compiled at 1:15 PM with our second debriefing meeting.

From this meeting, you will be able to identify your unknown evidence and single out the culprit.

Page 15: Good afternoon, Agents.

We will take the time now to assign a number 1-6 to each

agent in your team.Agent #1: Polysaccharide expertAgent #2: Monosaccharide expertAgent #3: Protein expertAgent #4: Lipid expertAgent #5: RecorderAgent #6: Recorder

Page 16: Good afternoon, Agents.

Agent #1: Polysaccharide expert

You will use Iodide to determine the presence of starch.

Page 17: Good afternoon, Agents.

BASIC PROCEDURE1.Put on lab apron, gloves, and

goggles.2.Label test tubes3.Pour out dry evidence into weigh

boat. Use back end of spoon to scoop and pour evidence.

4.Add water to the line, tap to mix well.

5.Add biochemical indicator, tap to mix well.

6.Relay observation to recorder.

Page 18: Good afternoon, Agents.

Agent #1: Polysaccharide expert

Add 5 drops of Iodide to determine the presence of starch.

Iodide solution changes from

clear orange to deep blue-black in presence of

starch

Page 19: Good afternoon, Agents.

Agent #2: Monosaccharide expert

Add 8 drops of Benedict’s solution to determine the presence of glucose.

Benedict’s solution changes from clear

blue to thick yellow-orange-red in presence of

glucose

Page 20: Good afternoon, Agents.

Agent #3: Protein expert

Add 8 drops of Biuret solution to determine the presence of protein.

Biuret’s solution changes from clear

light blue to lavender-brown in

presence of protein

Page 21: Good afternoon, Agents.

Agent #4: Lipid Expert

Smear the liquid sample onto a paper bag to determine the presence of lipids.Only you will be responsible for the LIQUID evidence.

Page 22: Good afternoon, Agents.

You will have until 1:27 PM to complete this investigation.

Good luck teams.
