China Daily, the national English Language newspaper is available online.
Articles from the official weekly Beijing Review from January 1996 up to the

Feng Hua Yuan (Maple Garden) -- A biweekly, Canada-based

The People's Daily is now online, including an archive going back several
weeks. Among other news sources sources at this site are the People's
Daily Overseas Edition and the Shichang Bao, an economic newspaper
produced by the People's Daily.

The Canton Daily (Guangzhou Ribao) is available. Some of its articles are

China News Digest's home page provides links to CND's electronic publications.

Human Rights in China (HRIC). An organization founded by Chinese

China is presently experiencing extremely serious environmental problems.
The homepage for China's National Environmental Protection Agency is
online. (Requires Chinese character format)
The World Bank has made available a database of China pollution
indicators and status. It contains summary information about pollution,
pollution impact, and environmental conditions in China.
China Environment is presented by the World Resources Institute to
provide an overview of China's environmental issues.
For information about the Three Gorges Dam project, the world's largest (and
most controversial) water-control project, you can check-out the following
websites:
y The International Rivers Network has organized an information campaign to
oppose the project from an environmental standpoint. There is an
introduction to the environmental and social issues surrounding the project,

The Space Policy Project at the Federation of American Scientists has
created a brief introduction to the Chinese space program.
Dragon Space is a website reporting on recent events in the Chinese

Should a major breaking news story occur in China, you could try
connecting to one of the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) groups to exchange
views and information in a real time basis. This IRC channel would be

can be found through INtv, Singapore's Teletext System. For those running
