Q: What is the history of your farm? A: Good Farms is a small, diversified family farm that began with a purebred Angus cow herd started by Don and Jane Good in 1961. We have been breeding Angus cattle for 57 years. We started raising purebred Duroc and Yorkshire pigs for sale as breeding stock in 1981. In 2003, we shifted our focus with the pigs to raise purebred, breed-identified, antibiotic-free pork primarily for the restaurant business. Q: What makes your pork great? A: The pork we raise goes almost exclusively to Heritage Foods USA, based in Brooklyn, N.Y. They market the pork to restaurants largely in New York City and on the West Coast (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Napa Valley and Las Vegas). We raise three different breeds of pigs to offer the customers a vast diversity in pork. Each breed offers something unique. We are constantly working to improve the meat quality of our pigs in our breeding selection. We use DNA marker testing to identify lines of pigs that are superior in meat quality or palatability characteristics. The pigs are harvested at Paradise Locker Meats in Trimble, Mo. and then shipped to the various restaurants across the nation. Q: Where can consumers find your pork products? A: Our pork and beef products are available via mail order from Heritage Foods USA or by contacting Meat LLC in Lawrence, Kan. Q: What do you want consumers to know about your product or business? A: We are a family farm with the goal of producing the most wholesome, tastiest, highest quality, most ethically raised proteins available. Like most farmers, we are constantly in search of ways to make our products better this year than they were last year. Good Pork from Good Farms
