My diploma thesis will be the ectoparasites of wildlife birds in Vietnam. As regards my hobbies, in the first place my work is my hobby - I care for my chance to study and attend to the topic, which is interesting for me, within the research on our department. Next hobbies relate to this - ornithology, herpetology, field zoology etc. Within these activities I am participant in the rescue of two very endangered species of birds - the Edward's pheasant (Lophura edwardsi) and the white-collared partridge (Arborophila gingica) - by their active breeding. Sometimes I arrange public ornithological excursions. I love the travelling for the animals into their nature habitats, within the research as well as independently.

Visit http://s.maxthon.com/?q=web+of+Science and http://s.maxthon.com/?q=seven+databases+that+contain+information+gathered+from+thousands+of+scholarly+journals+in+all+areas+of+research for more information on Web of Science database. The HINARI Programme, set up by WHO together with major publishers, enables developing countries to gain access to one of the world's largest collections of biomedical and health literature. More than 7,000 journal titles are now available to health institutions in 109 countries, areas and territories benefiting many thousands of health workers and researchers, and in turn, contributing to improved world health. http://www.who.int/hinari/en/ Local, not-for-profit institutions in two groups of countries may register for access to the journals through HINARI. The country lists are based on GNI per capita (World Bank figures, 2006). Institutions in countries with GNI per capita below $1250 are eligible for free access. Institutions in countries with GNI per capita between $1250-$3500 pay a fee of $1000 per year / institution. (See lists of countries, areas and territories) http://www.who.int/hinari/eligibility/en/

Comment on Lesson 13 (NATO, Brno) One video, according to my view, can demonstrate more than ten best books.

Comment on Lesson 11 (NATO, Brno) With the safety have problems not only students, I think – people generally are aware of the danger not until something happens. Here could help only the persistent repeating and accentuation of the rules of safety.

Evaluation of the GRP2010 e-course (Diego :Lozano Peral, Spain) I consider the Good Research practice very useful course and really interesting. Thank to GRP course I have improved my English, communication and research skills, including searching skills of information. Especially the lessons 3, 6, 9, 10, 13, and 19 have been more useful for me because in these lessons I have known new knowledge or important information to review. Others lessons as 11, 18 or 21 have not been so useful for me because I had already knew the information. I thank Prof. Hruska for this good opportunity and I congratulate to him for the organisation of the GRP course, which it is going better each year. I encourage every people who are interesting in research to do this useful course. Comment on Lesson 10 (NATO, Brno) I would like to appreciate the section relating to the ethic rules. There are generally suppressed the ethic rules in the modern times - people give priorities to career, money and glory, for example, and they cannot to slow down the life cycle, cannot put oneself into the place of the other person and many times not even to appreciate the intellectual (or physical often too) ownership of other people. I suppose that it is always good to ring a bell of that, what should be a commonplace for the each respectable human being. Comment on Lesson 09 (BARK, Brno) When I started using database PubMed few months ago, I did not see the profits which can the registration bring to the user. Only now when I absolved the lectures about databases and their use (Science Direct, Scopus and Web of Science at VRI in Brno), I realized what advantage it gives. Query We are working at a research lab and we have been doing some initiation training for some clinical trials to start mid this year and thus have been involved in various trainings mostly in South Africa and Europe since late last year. Due to this we have not been able to complete our GRP2010 lessons and are therefore requesting for an extension period to finish this course. We will kindly appreciate if granted an opportunity to complete the course and promise to beat the deadline One of the main advantage of the distance e-learning is a possibility for participants to manage their time. The basic need is about two to four hours per lesson, e.g. 40 to 80 hours in total. I am sure that even very busy person is able to save 10 to 20 hours a month for the activity, which should be more relaxation than work for people with a real interest in research. So the course is in the same time knowledge dissemination and testing of participant’s how

Page 9: Good Research Practice 2010 Bulletin 2010-05-20 - VRIcentaur.vri.cz/docs/BELOS/2010BULL.pdf · Good Research Practice 2010 Bulletin 2010-05-20 Professor Karel Hruska Veterinary Research

they are able to manage themselves. A duty overload is common in research and timing of GRP is one of hide tests for participants. It would be unfair to use any exemption in assessment the participants. Everybody can continue in learning and profit from the lessons. However, to award a certificate if the length of study exceeds four months is not possible.

Comment on Lesson 08 (NATO, Brno) I like work with Web of Science always, because it is very transparent and intuitive for me. I wasn't accustomed myself to other databases and I think, they are not as good as Web of Science, but I like, that I tried the work with them. Comment on Lesson 06 (BANA, Brno)

The Supercourse website is interesting source of information. It is made is unusual way for me. The given information is in slides form. One thing i didn't like in it - slides of the lectures are small, sometimes i had problems to read the text. And sometimes the name of lecture is too promising, but information given in the lecture is common and known. Your critical comment is appreciated. It is not necessary to agree with everything if you have your own opinion supported by expertise with a better solution. Comment on Lesson 06 (NATO, Brno)

There are so many interesting lectures (and interesting information in them) in the Super-course, that I could read it for a very long time.

Comment on Lesson 02 (NATO, Brno)

The theme, which is missing for me a little, is the parasitology. Within my diploma paper I attend to the ectoparasites of the wildlife birds and would welcome this topic in the network, but I accept, that it is not the branch developed in the Veterinary Research Institute. Information should address the network members working in the different biomedical fields. Hence the generally important news are preferred, namely opinions, reviews and reports, or case reports. The knowledge dissemination is focused mainly to interdisciplinary issues, new methods used in research and actual topics, like spongioform encephalopathies in 90ies or pandemic influenza last year. The CENTAUR GLOBAL NETWORK INFORMATION does not substitute the individual search for newly published results in disciplines of interest. Comment on Lesson 03 (RADK, Brno) Watching short movies, students can easily obtain information how to behave in lab and how to protect themselves in lab. Watching these videos take almost no time, but it can help a lot. Looking at such videos, we could not only improve our English, but also get some practical lab information. Comment on Lesson 07 (RADK, Brno)

Web of Science represents the web page, which is the most important for my work. I use it almost daily for searching of papers related to my research area. I especially appreciate a possibility to see articles, in which the article searched by me was quoted.

Evaluation of the GRP2010 e-course (Lucie Rusnikova, Czech Republic) Useful lessons for me: The most useful lessons for me were lessons 07 and 20. In lesson 08 I found out new useful databases. Useful reading and skills: Some information from lesson 01 is important for me. Reading from Centaur (Lesson 02) and Supercourse Epidemiology (Lesson 06) is sometimes

useful for me. I learned some new skills in lesson 07 and 20, for example looking for impact factor. I get interesting reading from MyNCBI (Lesson 09). Reading from Lesson 10 was important and I have got new skills there. Information from lesson 19 is important for me. No avail lessons for me:

Lesson 03 was more revision than new information (but sometimes it is need too). Lesson 13, 17, 18 were not avail for me.

Final comments on the GRP2010 e-course (Pavla Steinhauserova, Czech Republic)

The GRP course was very valuable for me. The course is really very well prepared and full of new ideas how to work and where to find new ideas and information. I am sure I will reuse some of the links from this course that I saved.

Queries on Lesson 01 (NATO, Brno) In the assignment 01 was state the size of 300 words, I don't know, if it is at least or the most. The limit of number of words is usually a maximum allowed. However the using the full space available is highly recommended. To use only 200 of 300 could be assessed as a loss of chance to say as much as possible. The communication is very important topic, but I was seeing other themes in the bulletin and they were very interesting too. The most of the things concerning the communication had been the matter of course for me, but all articles, which had been recommended by you, compelled me to be aware, how it is important. It is worth to make oneself the time for such like things undoubtedly. Otherwise, from my point of view, is very good, that I don't need to do this course periodically, but at that time, when it's possible. As regards the evaluation of the lesson importance, I don't know if is the best 0 or 5, but I'm evaluating the best (five, I think). Yes, in this rating five is the best. The evaluation should assess each Lesson, the overall assessment will be requested after finishing the course. Further I would like to ask you about the Activity Record. Doesn't it matter, that I don't write the arrival and departure in the laboratory? I change my activities during all day, so I can't state the arrival and departure exactly. Often I must to solve more problems simultaneously, for example to go to the laboratory in the break between the lectures, sometimes else phone up during it. The participants in this e-course are students, post-docs, research associates, teachers, or the head of the Department at the Ministry of Health. Their daily programme is different as well as their job description. Using the Activity Record they should meet the practical application of a table processor, to have some idea what time they spend for the regular activities dedicated to meet your obligations and they should learn how to manage their own time and what they can require from their students or staff members. I am not interested in the Record data, although the differences in the GRP self learning could be from 20 to 150 hours. Hence the GRP course participants should decide themselves what they want to follow in the Activity Record, if they only look for the answer to obtain 10 points or if they want to extent their knowledge now or remember the source of information for use in future.

Comment (Hruska) February 28, 2010, was a deadline for 55 participants of the GRP2010 e-course. Only five of them finished all lessons as required. It is obvious that many internet admirers are able to find the registration form and make a decision to participate in a course. Unfortunately the self-education requires a willingness to perform lessons in time, to be able to organize own time, and to be responsible even nobody reminds the tasks and terms and no supervisor manages every step. For people who are not able to manage themselves it is not possible to be successful in research work.

Final comments and evaluation of the GRP2010 e-course (Abidemi James Akindele, Nigeria)

I have no doubts in my mind that all the twenty one lessons in the Good Research Practice e-Course have been of immense benefit to me by enriching previous knowledge and facilitating the acquisition of numerous new facts. Directly and ultimately the lessons have built by capability and efficiency as a researcher, collaborator and lecturer. The lessons that I have found most resourceful include lessons 2 & 13; 6; 7, 8 & 9; 10; 19 and 21. Lessons 2 & 13: I found the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) to be an extremely useful resource

depository in view of its nature, design and diverse categorization of its contents (medicine; neuroscience; developmental biology; cellular biology; plant biology; microbiology; immunology and basic protocols). These attributes enhanced my understanding, knowledge acquisition and possible reproducibility of experimental techniques. Lesson 6: Since undertaking the GRP e-Course, I have found the Supercourse platform to be a reservoir of resource materials and information on contemporary health issues especially from the public health perspective. Such areas of interest include AIDs, STDs, diabetes, obesity, influenza, TB, antimicrobial resistance, malaria, cancer and genetics. The diverse content of the Supercourse platform has greatly stimulated my interest in public health. Interestingly, my wife has just started an M.Sc Public Health degree programme and I have thoughtfully introduced her to the Supercourse Epidemiology platform. Lessons 7, 8 & 9: The focus of these lessons, Web of Knowledge/Web of Science database, PubMed database and MyNBCI respectively, and the assignments therein have thought me the rudiments of efficient and effective article search. Prior to my participation in the GRP e-Course, I had no knowledge about the Web of Knowledge/Web of Science database even though my Institution signed up for the HINARI Access to Research tool. I can effectively use the database now. I also never had a MyNBCI account but now I have one and clearly knows how immensely useful a tool it is. I very well appreciate the various utilities available in the different databases including sorting searches by name, location, date etc; saving searches; receiving periodical updates on authors and topics of interest; Journal citation reports and analysis etc. I now search databases more efficiently & effectively and receive regular updates on authors & topics of interest. Lesson 10: I have also benefited immensely for the aspects of this lesson concerning ethical considerations in

the conduct and reporting of research as contained in the “Uniform Requirement for Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication”. Tips received especially from the aspects on authorship/contributorship; peer review; conflict of interest; and privacy & confidentiality have further endowed me with the skill of writing manuscripts for publication bearing in mind the avoidance of pitfalls that easily raise concern and questions from reviewers. Lesson 19: I appreciate the definition of supervisor – student relationship and the outlined expected roles of

each party. There is no doubt that a sound relationship between the supervisor and student, based on knowledge of role and appropriate conduct in like manner, guarantees mutually beneficial understanding and productivity. My practical experience with my supervisors in the course of my study and the knowledge acquired in this lesson will definitely serve me well in the not too distant future. The tips on organizing and writing a dissertation have been immensely useful and highly rewarding.

Lesson 21: I have also found the Clinical Laboratory International Digital Publication platform to be a handy

source of scholarly publications for enhancement of knowledge for research and teaching.

In general terms the greater understanding of scientific databases and exposure to academic resource banks on the web, stimulated by the GRP e-Course, have enriched my knowledge and provided readymade resources for research, collaboration and teaching advancement in my academic career. I appreciate the efforts of the Course Manager (Prof. Karel Hruska), all other individuals and corporate bodies involved in the design, sustenance and implementation of the Good Research Practice e-Course. I have benefited immensely from the programme and hope others will also be given the opportunity to be fulfilled likewise. Comment on Lesson 07 (AKAB, Lagos) I was able to use the Web of Science database through HINARI (WHO Access to Research Initiative) using my University’s institutional access. The nature and structure of the problems to be solved in this lesson has succeeded in making me to be better positioned to effectively use the Web of Knowledge/Web of Science database. The fact that one can access a greater coverage of Journals and intellectual materials beyond what some other database can offer, e.g. Pub med, is very commendable. I appreciate the extent and ease of digging up titles, topics, authors and year or range of publication years of interest. I have also found the Journal Citation Reports tool to be very helpful in knowing and assessing the stand of diverse Journals.

Reply (Hruska): It’s fantastic you have an access to the Web of Science database through HINARI. Internet and free access to scientific journals represent enormous help to higher education and research in developing countries. Try to stimulate your students and colleagues to enter the door to knowledge and last minute information, published in peer reviewed journals. Don’t read abstracts only, many full papers can be downloaded and are the source of unlimited cognition. I guess you will learn more and more how to use the Web of Science database. Take note of the utilities, namely Sort by Times Cited Analyze Results Create Citation Reports Full Text

Comment on Lesson 06 (AKAB, Lagos) I sincerely want to appreciate the usefulness of the Good Research Practice (GRP) e-course in exposing me to invaluable information sources, learning, and research tools. One of such excellent platforms is the Supercourse site. The endless list of educative and enlightening lectures on public health, epidemiology, and research tools is such that will encourage basic and clinical scientists to want to visit the platform always. With this great information repository, personal education, teaching, and research efforts can be greatly enriched for the benefit of all involved in the education, health and environment, policy design and implementation, and community mobilization sectors. Reply (Hruska): Thanks for kind appreciation. Comment on Lesson 10 (AKAB, Lagos) Lesson 10 of the Good Research Practice e-course (How to write a paper in a scientific journal style and format) has endowed me with greater knowledge in the area of writing for scientific publication. I have found very useful online resources in the Bates’ College Department of Biology online resources including research poster tips, guide to statistical analysis, guidelines for keeping a laboratory record and experimental design worksheet. I have also found to be very resourceful the ethical rules in the EU’s seventh framework program for research and the ethical issues in the EU research proposals checklist. The information contained in the Special Issue Bulletin for the Authors of Veterinarni Medicina May 2005 is appreciated. I have found very useful tips on problems that usually arise with reviewers, most frequent formal errors found in submitted manuscripts, frequent errors in references, frequent faults in e-mail correspondence, frequently requested corrections and how authors can contribute to the impact factor of the journal. Also the introduction to reference manager is very useful. Reply (Hruska):

Do you understand that a good research is important in education? A good researcher should learn students how to find a correct information, to respect knowledge available, to find the gaps in knowledge, to define a sound hypothesis, to design good experiments, to perform experiments and to record and interpret the results correctly and to publish the results in demanding peer reviewed journal? Such experience should be applied by postdocs not only in research, but also in management and administration.

Comment on Lesson 01 (MAJO, Mombasa)

For me this lesson was very informative. The fact that communication is key in every institution, there is a great need for people to communicate effectively and efficiently. It’s amazing how things like sending an attachment without a subject is a daily practice yet it’s wrong! Looking forward to learn more.

Comment on Lesson 06 (STEP, Brno) The idea of supercourse is great! Such a wonderful thing for teachers, students or anybody interested in anything! Great idea of putting great ideas together from the scientists all around the world! I visited only a few presentations, but I will be definitely visiting this page again! I like the possibility of searching by keyword, author…like in the internet database, it is very easy and quick work. Thank you very much for this link! Comment on Lesson 09 (AKAB, Lagos) I found my experience with the MyNBCI very fascinating and eye-opening in the light of my being an academic actively engaged in teaching and research activities. Prior to this GRP course I have used the PubMed database as a veritable tool for digging out research articles and locating sought after bibliography. However, I never had MyNCBI account and was never exposed to the usefulness and benefits of MyNCBI. After obtaining an account and following the instructions for maximal use of the tool, I have found it to be a useful avenue for obtaining and saving searches and data deemed important to be at ones finger tips in times of need.

Question on Lesson 03 (RULU, Brno) What do you mean by Assignment 03? Reply (Hruska):

The essay, summarizing your own experience, new and already known data, not limited in length, is expected as an assignment. Comment on Lesson 02 (ANOP, Nairobi):

I have taken a lot of time going through the CENTAUR website. There is a wealth of information that I wish I had read before I carried out my Masters studies. I am going to mention just but a few of them. Firstly, the Dissertation Bulletin at Exactica made the best reading ever. The subsection on “The Relationship Between Student and Supervisor at Post Graduate Level“ was the most interesting for me. From this article, I realize the importance of commitment, both on the side of the supervisor and the student. Secondly, the section on Libraries and Librarians introduced me to other sources of literature and reading materials

that I was not aware of, such as Internet Public Library, which also led me to the discovery of more resources. I think this is an excellent link for any scholar who wants to have a broad view of his or her subject matter.

Comment on Lesson 11 (KAKA, Brno): In my opinion nearly all of the problems, which were described in the presentation can concern our country and us. Some of them are more common, such as poor record keeping, poor knowledge on the principles of equipment, which are used, poor knowledge on the principles of bioprocesses and poor mathematic skills.

Note on the assignment 03

The essay, summarizing your own experience, new and already known data, not limited in length, is expected as an assignment. Comment on Lesson 01 (ANOP, Nairobi): I found the article on communication very useful, since in many communications, we normally take things for granted. I also enjoyed reading the suggested list of resources, especially the ones on community group dynamics. I was particularly impressed by the article on Ice Breakers, warm-ups, Energizers, and Motivators for Groups. This will particularly help me when I am facilitating adult learning activities and trainings because they can sometimes become very boring or tense. Only for Czech participants Czech characters mentioned in the Lesson 01: A recommendation to write Czech words without national characters is addressed to the Czech participants. Recommendations:

Use the spell checker, typing errors should be avoided. Double spaces should not be used between the words. Comment on Lesson 01 (JAPO, Brno) Thanks to this article, I made myself an electronic signature and realized the importance of answering the e-mails. I have learned interesting information. Some of them were known, others surprised me. Some I didn’t see as fundamental but after reading this article, I have found that they are significant for correct communication. Comment on Lesson 03 (STEP, Brno)

The link http://www.microeguide.com/ seems to me like a great opportunity for the students how to get prepared basically for the microbiological lesson, a great start how to „touch“ the environment of the laboratory. Especially to know about the laboratory safety is very important before the start of the first lesson. And as I remember how such a hard time I had with preparing the dilutions, it seems like a great way how to get understand this problem quietly at home. And plus the photos, video, examples and quizzes are a good way how to catch the attention of the student.

Activity report (BAPS, Nigeria)

Thank you once more for given me the opportunity to participate in the GRP2010 E-COURSE. The course very interesting and educative, I’ll do my best to create time for it. I have a question about the excel activity sheet. I don`t understand how it works. Please, advise. Reply (Hruska): To keep a diary (notes on your activities, meeting, decisions, tasks received etc. either written by hand or in electronic version is strongly recommended, but it is not required for the GRP course. However, the GRP2010 Activity Report is required and it should be a survey of your real time (approx. in hours or minutes) spent on your main activities. Download http://www.vri.cz/userfiles/file/hide/GRP/GRP2010_ACTIVITY_REPORT.xls, leave the suitable activities in column A, delete inappropriate and add some other from your regular tasks and take a note on your efforts every day. Results should be analysed by yourself, so the record should be truthful. Save the table as GRP2010_your family name_REPORT in your files.

General comment (Hruska)

PhD students should be responsible persons, competent to study without compulsion and independently. All instructions and description of lessons should not be only read, but followed. Assignments should be submitted separately for every lesson and links to recommended web pages or articles studied, not only tested. Comment on Lesson 01 (CLAK, Bonn) I know most of these recommendations about communication. I was surprised about the part about formal conversation. I didn’t know as yet, that it isn’t appropriate to use familiar forms for communication between colleagues, if it is official contact. Reply (Hruska): It is important mainly in correspondence or in communication at public meetings and with participation of the third parties or a public. Correspondence must be strictly separated as private and official. Two schoolmates or brothers, Joe and Tom are in positions of the director of institute and the chief veterinary officer, respectively. An official letter of Joe to Tom must be on the headed paper, addressed to the full name and position, e.g. Thomas Newman, DVM, PhD., Chief Veterinary Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, .......... and signed as

Page 24: Good Research Practice 2010 Bulletin 2010-05-20 - VRIcentaur.vri.cz/docs/BELOS/2010BULL.pdf · Good Research Practice 2010 Bulletin 2010-05-20 Professor Karel Hruska Veterinary Research

follows: Joseph Black, PhD., Director of the Institute, ....... The letters are stored in files and nobody knows, who and when will read them tomorrow or after years. Moreover, it is possible that Tom will forward the letter to his chief, the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister to the Prime Minister. The Minister cannot write to the Prime Minister something as follows: Your Excellence, as it is obvious from the attached letters, Joe has informed Tom, that ....... Oh, sorry, perhaps you know that Joe if Professor Black, Director of ...... and Tom, his schoolmate, is the CVO of our country. With a sign of respect, Patrick White, Minister of Agriculture. P. S. Tom and Joe are not only schoolmates, but they like common fishing. Activity report (STEL, Brno) I have one question for you. It´s not very clear to me, how to write that postgradual report. I am doing a lot of things, e.g. I am studying or doing GRP outside the office too. So I would like to know, if I can write it down in the table too, when I am doing some schoolwork at home. Reply (Hruska):

You should keep the activity report as a tool for recording time needed for your main working and study engagement. You’ll be able to organize your schedule, to compare time devoted to different activities with the effects and to avoid unnecessary waste of time. Moreover, it is a practical training how the excel sheet can be used. You can modify the fields in column A according to your needs. The data in report is not for my information, but yours. The best is you fill in the table daily, not later than after two days, to close the month and open a new list on the first day of the next month. It’s very likely you will be surprised from the results. Comment on Lesson 01 (RULU, Brno) I have still some obscurity in response to collectively received emails. I don’t know, if consigner await reply or not. It seems he could be flooded by this answerback. Reply (Hruska):

Reply, if you have any question or comment on the received information. Reply if you are invited to a meeting of a committee or board, where you are the member or invited participant. E-mails with general information are sometimes distributed to hundreds or thousands addressee and their replies are not expected. If you want to thank to the editor or appreciate his/her effort, send the e-mail with appropriate subject, however don’t send it as a reply to bulk correspondence.

Comment on Registration (Hruska) The registration is a part of the entire course. Files attached must be names as required, no spaces, only English characters, only family name. The same must appear in the subject of the e-mail. Submit assignments from the lessons one by one, as soon as you have finished a lesson. Do not join assignments from more lessons to one e-mail. The course language is English. Hence the data in registration form should be in English, names of universities in official language of the country and all abbreviations should be omitted. The country should be a part of mailing address. List of Lessons corrected Imperfections were corrected and assignments have been changed if web pages or portals were changed recently. Comment on Lesson 11 (AKAB, Lagos)

1. Proper curriculum development to adequately educate students on good laboratory practice and principles including statistical designs, principles of equipment use, principles of bioprocesses, use of standards and quality control principles, general laboratory practices, laboratory safety issues, presentation of results, and presentation skills. 2. Organization of continuous training and assessment courses on research and laboratory safety issues for researchers and supervisors. 3. Fashioning of sound mentoring programs to link students and junior researchers with established senior academics and researchers. This is to facilitate and sustain the cross fertilization of ideas and transfer of knowledge, techniques, and experience. 4. Encouraging acquisition of new and additional research skills by facilitating local and international exposure in well equipped research institutions. 5. Encouraging interest in research and research activities by providing the needed funding and equipments. 6. Discouraging “Brain Drain” a term used to describe the exodus of professionals to developed countries for “Greener Pastures” i.e. for better conditions of service and living, and very conducive working environment. A way to achieve this is to improve on governance, general infrastructural development, condition of service, and provision of incentives. This will ensure that the best brains in the country are available to transfer knowledge to the upcoming ones while also guiding them through the basic rudiments of research design, implementation, result collation and analysis, and presentation of research findings. 7. Sustained effort on the part of all concerned (individuals, local and international institutions, and government) to attend and support attendance at conferences and courses (local and international). This will ensure the acquisition of more academic/research skills, cross fertilization of ideas with colleagues and renowned scientists, and establishing veritable scholarly networks to sustain and improve on ones research efforts and skills.
