A Special Thank You
I want to thank each and every person who took the time to send Father’s Day cards to my dad, John Wooleyhan. He sends his own thanks to you, and even spent some time looking up the names in our photo directory. Both of my parents have felt well connected to Good Shepherd from far away and hope to make a visit sometime in the near future. We all continue to pray for each of you every day. - Fr. Jason

Mass Readings & Intentions: 7/15-21
GOD WANTS TO BE KNOWN The Old Testament reading from Deuteronomy praises God for inscribing the commandments in our very bodies. God’s law is not distant or foreign, but a natural part of us. In his letter to the Colossians, Saint Paul echoes Moses, praising God for becoming one of us. The truly human, flesh-and-blood Jesus reminds us that God always wants to be recognizable and familiar to us. Jesus, who is also truly God, wants to be on intimate terms with each of us. God’s passionate desire to be known by us is almost too wonderful to take in. Luke’s Gospel helps us understand how to respond. The Good Samaritan parable provides practical advice for those who believe in God’s intimate love for them and want to share that love with others. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
PASTOR’S VISION STATEMENT
The Catholic Community of Good Shepherd is intentional about evangelizing and making disciples in the spirit of Saints Francis and Clare, especially by seeking out the lost in need of reconciliation and conversion of heart to God, the Church, to oneself and others, so that all may experience the peace and joy of a personal relationship with Jesus.
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS AND BE GENEROUS
These past few months have been busy, but exciting times, for Good Shepherd. Our dreams are finally coming true all at once. We have been given permission to complete several new projects, starting immediately.
Let’s count the ways:
New Roof on the church to prevent weather-related leaks--paid!
Our building on 26 is being remodeled for Evangelization & Catholic Charities--paid!
Stained glass in the church and chapel and tapestries of the Saints for this year--paid!
Wayfinding Signage to give directions to visitors on our church site very soon--paid!
Land acquired at the north of our site on Pleasant Run to improve church traffic flow!
These Blessings only happen with the help of God and your generosity. Since the first three blessings are already paid, I ask you to extend your generosity for the Land Acquisition. We are in need of $1.5 million to pay off this loan. Although we have five years to do so, it is to our advantage to pay it off more quickly to avoid the high interest rate. We can do it with your generosity. I have already given $1,000 from my vacation money, can you also help us meet this dream goal by making a one-time sacrificial contribution? May I suggest that you continue giving for this project through Faith Direct, or a check to the parish with the words Land Acquisition on the Memo Line, or by using the envelope that the parish will provide for this purpose. You may also pick up this envelope at the information desk in the church. With our combined efforts, we can do it! Count your Blessings and be generous! Father Richard
Pastor’s Corner Vocations Corner
Please keep our Franciscan Friars in your prayers the week of July 14-19. During this time, the Province of the Most Sacred Heart will be having their Chapter of the Whole meeting to discuss province business and vote on the next leadership! All friars in this American province will be traveling to attend this meeting. This is a very exciting time for the friars. We appreciate your prayerful support!
For information on vocations, contact Fr. Jason ([email protected]) or visit gscc.net/vocations, fwdioc.org/vocations, or franciscanstor.org For details on our Vocations Icon (seen at Sunday Mass) and an opportunity to pray as a household for vocations, visit gscc.net/vocations

Shepherd to practice radical hospitality by actively seeking out
and inviting others to Good Shepherd.

Church Re-Roofing
GSCC is undergoing our church re-roofing project, which will continue over several weeks depending on daily weather conditions. We will be taking extra care and steps to ensure the safety of our visitors, parishioners,
and staff during this period. For your safety, please follow any signs posted on campus, and please note that certain entrances may be closed during this project. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Special Presider & Collection
Fr. Bob Mosher of the Missionary Society of St. Columban will visit Good Shepherd to preside at all Masses on July 13 & 14, and we will conduct a monetary collection to support the missionary efforts of the Columban Fathers. The Columbans are a society of missionaries who minister to people of various cultures as a way of witnessing to the universal love of God. Their vision is to establish the Church where the Gospel has not been preached and help local churches grow into evangelizing communities open to all peoples. As the director of Columban Mission Center in El Paso, Fr. Bob has been the gracious host to Good Shepherd missioners who traveled there in 2017 and February 2019 to explore and learn firsthand about the many complex issues surrounding immigration at the U.S.-Mexico Border. Parishioners can use the collection envelopes in the pews if they wish to make a donation and drop the envelopes in with our regular collection. Checks should be made payable to Good Shepherd.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO PRAY FOR OTHERS? Visit gscc.net/prayerrequests to sign up to receive prayer emails so that we can intercede for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

My journey started over 20 years ago. I had attended church fairly regularly throughout my life at several different churches and denominations. My wife converted to Catholicism after the birth of our first child, and we began attending Mass as a family. We were very fortunate to be able to raise our children in the Catholic faith and provide them a Catholic education. It became clear to me
by watching my wife and children grow in their faith just how powerful the Catholic faith really is.
I have always felt the presence of “something” bigger in my life, but was never really sure what it was. After attending RCIA, I know now it was the Holy Spirit. As I look back over the years, I can clearly see how the Holy Spirit has been with me, guiding me through various decision points and crossroads in my life.
It has been an amazing experience going through RCIA with so many individuals with such a strong faith and those that have been on the same journey as me. My sponsor, the wonderful and dedicated RCIA coordinators, and the other RCIA participants have helped me understand and come to love traditions, reverence, and the beliefs of the Catholic Church. It has truly made me realize we are all part of one Catholic community.
Jack came into full communion with the Catholic Church
at the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday, April 20, 2019.

A Scriptural Walk through the Mass For Catholics, the Mass is entirely familiar, but often not well understood. Scripture scholar and well known author Dr. Edward
Sri takes listeners on a journey through the sacred liturgy that is sure to help Catholics experience the Mass more fully as the most powerful and important prayer of the Church. Dr. Sri examines the historical and biblical roots of the words, prayers, actions, and gestures contained within the Mass in order to arrive at a deeper understanding of their significance.
