FROM THE RPOS DIRECTORIt’s that time of year, when Mother Nature says it is time to refresh and renew ourselves. The sunshine, warm breezes and green grass are a perfect invitation to get out and play!

This spring RPOS offers so many ways to do just that. Stretch your muscles in a yoga class, join a community bike ride, visit the Northside Skate Plaza, or make colorful stepping stones for your home garden.

Registration will soon be underway for adult basketball, youth soccer, and an exciting season of the RBI youth baseball league. Gather your friends, form a team, and get in the game!

Be sure to check out page 18 for special events you won’t want to miss. It’s your chance to become a (Norfolk) Olympian, or get ready for a safe summer in the water with April Pool’s Day.

No matter how you plan to play this spring, RPOS has just the right opportunity for you!

Sincerely,

Darrell R. Crittendon, DirectorRecreation, Parks & Open Space

SPOTLIGHT:NORTHSIDE SKATE PLAZA

Spring is just around the corner, and soon everyone will be looking for ways to get outside to enjoy the mild temperatures, fresh air, and sunshine. RPOS has many ways to get a little fresh air!

One such place is the Northside Skate Plaza, located in Northside Park at 8401 Tidewater Drive, offers skaters, skateboarders, and BMX riders a place to hone their skills and learn new tricks.

Participants can skim through a banked street course that features hips, ledges, hand rails, fun boxes, a flat bar and a mini half-pipe. Or glide through the 7 to 9 foot bowl.

Come catch some air at the skate plaza, open daily from sunsrise to sunset, free of charge!

ALL ACCESS PASS TO FUNIt’s never been easier to get out and play in Norfolk! With pricing that can’t be beat, your RPOS Facility Use ID Card entitles you to access at the city’s 18 recreation centers and five pools. Cards valid for one year. Visit Norfolk.gov/play for details.
