Venezuelan music is a Spanish and African fusion that embraces everything from waltz-like jaropo dancing to the melodic llaneros of the grasslands. Barí is the language of the Barí people, one of five ethnic groups that dwell in Zulia state in Western Venezuela near the Colombian-Venezuelan border. Yanomami counting is particularly challenging, and particularly fun to try in class, because the Yanomami only have three numbers—one, two and “many.”
