Google PowerMeter is a free energy monitoring tool that helps you save energy and money

It is a software application being developed by Google's philanthropic arm, Google.org, to help consumers track their home electricity usage.

Using energy information provided by utility smart meters and energy monitoring devices, Google PowerMeter enables you to view your home's energy consumption from anywhere online.

Google PowerMeter helps in tracking Energy Consumption. Once energy consumption has been determined, steps to help conserve Energy can be achieved and ultimately help save the household more Money.

DisadvantageGoogle PowerMeter is currently not available to everyone but Google will certainly be

branching out.  If your utility provider is not listed as a Google PowerMeter Parter,

you will need to purchase of a power meter device that my cost you money initially.

Future Outlook Google.org, the organization that developed

PowerMeter, hopes that by enabling people to actively monitor their energy usage they will be more willing to introduce energy-saving tactics, such as making sure lights are switched off when not in use, appliances are not left in standby mode and kettles are not over-filled. This should help reduce carbon footprints as well as save money for consumers.
